1 訓誨を愛する者は知識を愛す 懲戒を惡むものは畜のごとし Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2 善人はヱホバの恩寵をうけ 惡き謀略を設くる人はヱホバに罰せらる A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
3 人は惡をもて堅く立ことあたはず 義人の根は動くことなし A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
4 賢き婦はその夫の冠弁なり 辱をきたらする婦は夫をしてその骨に腐あるが如くならしむ A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
5 義者のおもひは直し 惡者の計るところは虚偽なり The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6 惡者の言は人の血を流さんとて伺ふ されど直者の口は人を救ふなり The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
7 惡者はたふされて無ものとならん されど義者の家は立べし The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
8 人はその聰明にしたがひて譽られ 心の悖れる者は藐めらる A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
9 卑賤してしもべある者は自らたかぶりて食に乏き者に愈る He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
10 義者はその畜の生命を顧みる されど惡者は殘忍をもてその憐憫とす A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
11 おのれの田地を耕すものは食にあく 放蕩なる人にしたがふ者は智慧なし He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
12 惡者はあしき人の獲たる物をうらやみ 義者の根は芽をいだす The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
13 惡者はくちびるの愆によりて罟に陷る されど義者は患難の中よりまぬかれいでん The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
14 人はその口の徳によりて福祉に飽ん 人の手の行爲はその人の身にかへるべし A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.
15 愚なる者はみづからその道を見て正しとす されど智慧ある者はすすめを容る The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
16 愚なる者はただちに怒をあらはし 智きものは恥をつつむ A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.
17 眞實をいふものは正義を述べ いつはりの證人は虚偽をいふ He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
18 妄りに言をいだし劍をもて刺がごとくする者あり されど智慧ある者の舌は人をいやす There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
19 眞理をいふ口唇は何時までも存つ されど虚偽をいふ舌はただ瞬息のあひだのみなり The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20 惡事をはかる者の心には欺詐あり 和平を謀る者には歓喜あり Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
21 義者には何の禍害も來らず 惡者はわざはひをもて充さる There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
22 いつはりの口唇はヱホバに憎まれ 眞實をおこなふ者は彼に悦ばる Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.
23 賢人は知識をかくす されど愚なる者のこころは愚なる事を述ぶ A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
24 勤めはたらく者の手は人ををさむるにいたり惰者は人に服ふるにいたる The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
25 うれひ人の心にあれば之を屈ます されど善言はこれを樂します Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
26 義者はその友に道を示す されど惡者は自ら途にまよふ The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.
27 惰者はおのれの猟獲たる物をも燔ず 勉めはたらくことは人の貴とき寳なり The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
28 義しき道には生命ありその道すぢには死なし In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
