1 茲にヱホバ大風の中よりヨブに答へて宣まはく Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
2 無智の言詞をもて道を暗からしむる此者は誰ぞや Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
3 なんぢ腰ひきからげて丈夫のごとくせよ 我なんぢに問ん 汝われに答へよ Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
4 地の基を我が置たりし時なんぢは何處にありしや 汝もし穎悟あらば言へ Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
5 なんぢ若知んには誰が度量を定めたりしや 誰が準繩を地の上に張りたりしや Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6 その基は何の上に奠れたりしや その隅石は誰が置たりしや Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
7 かの時には晨星あひともに歌ひ 神の子等みな歡びて呼はりぬ When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 海の水ながれ出で 胎内より涌いでし時誰が戸をもて之を閉こめたりしや Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
9 かの時我雲をもて之が衣服となし 黑暗をもて之が襁褓となし When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
10 これに我法度を定め關および門を設けて And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
11 曰く此までは來るべし此を越べからず 汝の高浪ここに止まるべしと And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
12 なんぢ生れし日より以來朝にむかひて命を下せし事ありや また黎明にその所を知しめ Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
13 これをして地の縁を取へて惡き者をその上より振落さしめたりしや That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
14 地は變りて土に印したるごとくに成り 諸の物は美はしき衣服のごとくに顯る It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
15 また惡人はその光明を奪はれ 高く擧たる手は折らる And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
16 なんぢ海の泉源にいたりしことありや 淵の底を歩みしことありや Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
17 死の門なんぢのために開けたりしや 汝死蔭の門を見たりしや Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?
18 なんぢ地の廣を看きはめしや 若これを盡く知ば言へ Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
19 光明の在る所に往く路は孰ぞや 黑暗の在る所は何處ぞや Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
20 なんぢ之をその境に導びき得るや その家の路を知をるや That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
21 なんぢ之を知ならん汝はかの時すでに生れをり また汝の經たる日の數も多ければなり Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
22 なんぢ雪の庫にいりしや 雹の庫を見しや Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
23 これ我が艱難の時にために蓄はへ 戰爭および戰鬪の日のために蓄はへ置くものなり Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
24 光明の發散る道 東風の地に吹わたる所の路は何處ぞや By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
25 誰が大雨を灌ぐ水路を開き雷電の光の過る道を開き Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
26 人なき地にも人なき荒野にも雨を降し To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
27 荒かつ廢れたる處々を潤ほし かつ若菜蔬を生出しむるや To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
28 雨に父ありや 露の珠は誰が生る者なるや Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
29 氷は誰が胎より出るや 空の霜は誰が產むところなるや Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
30 水かたまりて石のごとくに成り 淵の面こほる The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
31 なんぢ昴宿の鏈索を結びうるや 參宿の繋繩を解うるや Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
32 なんぢ十二宮をその時にしたがひて引いだし得るや また北斗とその子星を導びき得るや Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
33 なんぢ天の常經を知るや 天をして其權力を地に施こさしむるや Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
34 なんぢ聲を雲に擧げ滂沛の水をして汝を掩はしむるを得るや Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
35 なんぢ閃電を遣はして往しめ なんぢに答へて我儕は此にありと言しめ得るや Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
36 胸の中の智慧は誰が與へし者ぞ 心の内の聰明は誰が授けし者ぞ Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
37 たれか能く智慧をもて雲を數へんや たれか能く天の瓶を傾むけ Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
38 塵をして一塊に流れあはしめ土塊をしてあひかたまらしめんや When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
39 なんぢ牝獅子のために食物を獵や また小獅子の食氣を滿すや Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
40 その洞穴に伏し 森の中に隱れ伺がふ時なんぢこの事を爲うるや When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
41 また鴉の子 神にむかひて呼はり 食物なくして徘徊る時 鴉に餌を與ふる者は誰ぞや Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
