1 なにゆゑに全能者時期を定めおきたまはざるや 何故に彼を知る者その日を見ざるや Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?
2 人ありて地界を侵し群畜を奪ひて牧ひ Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.
3 孤子の驢馬を驅去り 寡婦の牛を取て質となし They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.
4 貧しき者を路より推退け 世の受難者をして盡く身を匿さしむ They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
5 視よ彼らは荒野にをる野驢馬のごとく出て業を爲て食を求め 野原よりその子等のために食物を得 Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.
6 圃にて惡き者の麥を刈り またその葡萄の遺餘を摘む They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.
7 かれらは衣服なく裸にして夜を明し 覆ふて寒氣を禦ぐべき物なし They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold.
8 山の暴風に濡れ 庇はるるところ無して岩を抱く They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.
9 孤子を母の懷より奪ふ者あり 貧しき者の身につける物を取て質となす者あり They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.
10 貧き者衣服なく裸にて歩き 饑つつ麥束を擔ふ They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;
11 人の垣の内にて油を搾め また渇きつつ酒醡を踐む Which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.
12 邑の中より人々の呻吟たちのぼり 傷けられたる者の叫喚おこる 然れども神はその怪事を省みたまはず Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.
13 また光明に背く者あり 光の道を知ず 光の路に止らず They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.
14 人を殺す者昧爽に興いで 受難者や貧しき者を殺し 夜は盜賊のごとくす The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.
15 姦淫する者は我を見る目はなからんと言てその目に昏暮をうかがひ待ち而してその面に覆ふ物を當つ The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.
16 また夜分家を穿つ者あり 彼等は晝は閉こもり居て光明を知らず In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.
17 彼らには晨は死の蔭のごとし 是死の蔭の怖ろしきを知ばなり For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.
18 彼は水の面に疾ながるる物の如し その產業は世の中に詛はる その身重ねて葡萄圃の路に向はず He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.
19 亢旱および炎熱は雪水を直に乾涸す 陰府が罪を犯せし者におけるも亦かくのごとし Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.
20 これを宿せし腹これを忘れ 蛆これを好みて食ふ 彼は最早世におぼえらるること無く その惡は樹を折るが如くに折る The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.
21 是すなはち孕まず產ざりし婦人をなやまし 寡婦を憐れまざる者なり He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.
22 神はその權能をもて強き人々を保存へさせたまふ 彼らは生命あらじと思ふ時にも復興る He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.
23 神かれらに安泰を賜へば彼らは安らかなり 而してその目をもて彼らの道を見そなはしたまふ Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.
24 かれらは旺盛になり暫時が間に無なり卑くなりて一切の人のごとくに沒し麥の穗のごとくに斷る They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
25 すでに是のごとくなれば誰か我の謬まれるを示してわが言語を空しくすることを得ん And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
