| 1 | 是においてナアマ人ゾパル答へて言けるは | Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said, |
| 2 | 言語多からば豈答へざるを得んや 口おほき人あに義とせられんや | Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified? |
| 3 | 汝も空しき言あに人をして口を閉しめんや 汝嘲らば人なんぢをして羞しめざらんや | Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed? |
| 4 | 汝は言ふ 我敎は正し 我は汝の目の前に潔しと | For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes. |
| 5 | 願くは神言を出し 汝にむかひて口を開き | But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee; |
| 6 | 智慧の秘密をなんぢに示してその知識の相倍するを顯したまはんことを 汝しれ神はなんぢの罪よりも輕くなんぢを處置したまふなり | And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth. |
| 7 | なんぢ神の深事を窮むるを得んや 全能者を全く窮むることを得んや | Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? |
| 8 | その高きことは天のごとし 汝なにを爲し得んや 其深きことは陰府のごとし 汝なにを知えんや | It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? |
| 9 | その量は地よりも長く海よりも濶し | The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea. |
| 10 | 彼もし行めぐりて人を執へて召集めたまふ時は誰か能くこれを阻まんや | If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him? |
| 11 | 彼は僞る人を善く知りたまふ 又惡事は顧みること無して見知たまふなり | For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it? |
| 12 | 虚しき人は悟性なし その生るるよりして野驢馬の駒のごとし | For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt. |
| 13 | 汝もし彼にむかひて汝の心を定め 汝の手を舒べ | If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him; |
| 14 | 手に罪のあらんには之を遠く去れ 惡をなんぢの幕屋に留むる勿れ | If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles. |
| 15 | 然すれば汝 面を擧て玷なかるべく堅く 立て懼るる事なかるべし | For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear: |
| 16 | すなはち汝憂愁を忘れん 汝のこれを憶ゆることは流れ去し水のごとくならん | Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: |
| 17 | なんぢの生存らふる日は眞晝よりも輝かん 假令暗き事あるとも是は平旦のごとくならん | And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning. |
| 18 | なんぢは望あるに因て安んじ 汝の周圍を見めぐりて安然に寐るにいたらん | And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety. |
| 19 | なんぢは何にも懼れさせらるること無して偃やまん 必ず衆多の者なんぢを悦こばせんと務むべし | Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee. |
| 20 | 然ど惡き者は目曚み逃遁處を失なはん 其望は氣の斷ると等しかるべし | But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost. |
