| 1 | 過越のまつりの前に、イエスこの世を去りて父に往くべき己が時の來れるを知り、世に在る己の者を愛して、極まで之を愛し給へり。 | Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. |
| 2 | 夕餐のとき、惡魔 早くもシモンの子イスカリオテのユダの心に、イエスを賣らんとする思を入れたるが、 | And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him; |
| 3 | イエス父が萬物をおのが手にゆだね給ひしことと、己の神より出でて神に到ることを知り、 | Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; |
| 4 | 夕餐より起ちて上衣をぬぎ、手巾をとりて腰にまとひ、 | He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. |
| 5 | 尋で盥に水をいれて、弟子たちの足をあらひ、纏ひたる手巾にて之を拭ひはじめ給ふ。 | After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. |
| 6 | かくてシモン・ペテロに至り給へば、彼いふ『主よ、汝わが足を洗ひ給ふか』 | Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? |
| 7 | イエス答へて言ひ給ふ『わが爲すことを汝いまは知らず、後に悟るべし』 | Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. |
| 8 | ペテロ言ふ『永遠に我が足をあらひ給はざれ』イエス答へ給ふ『我もし汝を洗はずば、汝われと關係なし』 | Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. |
| 9 | シモン・ペテロ言ふ『主よ、わが足のみならず、手をも頭をも』 | Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. |
| 10 | イエス言ひ給ふ『すでに浴したる者は足のほか洗ふを要せず、全身きよきなり。斯く汝らは潔し、されど悉とくは然らず』 | Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. |
| 11 | これ己を賣る者の誰なるを知りたまふ故に『ことごとくは潔からず』と言ひ給ひしなり。 | For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. |
| 12 | 彼らの足をあらひ、己が上衣をとり、再び席につきて後いひ給ふ『わが汝らに爲したることを知るか。 | So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? |
| 13 | なんぢら我を師また主ととなふ、然か言ふは宜なり、我は是なり。 | Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. |
| 14 | 我は主また師なるに、尚なんぢらの足を洗ひたれば、汝らも互に足を洗ふべきなり。 | If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. |
| 15 | われ汝らに模範を示せり、わが爲ししごとく汝らも爲さんためなり。 | For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. |
| 16 | 誠にまことに汝らに告ぐ、僕はその主よりも大ならず。遣されたる者は之を遣す者よりも大ならず。 | Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. |
| 17 | 汝 等これらの事を知りて之を行はば幸福なり。 | If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. |
| 18 | これ汝ら凡ての者につきて言ふにあらず、我はわが選びたる者どもを知る。されど聖書に「我とともにパンを食ふ者、われに向ひて踵を擧げたり」と云へることは、必ず成就すべきなり。 | I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. |
| 19 | 今その事の成らぬ前に之を汝らに告ぐ、事の成らん時、わが夫なるを汝らの信ぜんためなり。 | Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. |
| 20 | 誠にまことに汝らに告ぐ、わが遣す者を受くる者は我をうくるなり。我を受くる者は我を遣し給ひし者を受くるなり』 | Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. |
| 21 | イエス此 等のことを言ひ終へて、心さわぎ證をなして言ひ給ふ『まことに誠に汝らに告ぐ、汝らの中の一人われを賣らん』 | When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. |
| 22 | 弟子たち互に顏を見 合せ、誰につきて言ひ給ふかを訝る。 | Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. |
| 23 | イエスの愛したまふ一人の弟子、イエスの御胸によりそひ居たれば、 | Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. |
| 24 | シモン・ペテロ首にて示し『誰のことを言ひ給ふか、告げよ』といふ。 | Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. |
| 25 | 彼そのまま御胸によりかかりて『主よ、誰なるか』と言ひしに、 | He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? |
| 26 | イエス答へ給ふ『わが一撮の食物を浸して與ふる者は夫なり』かくて一撮の食物を浸して、シモンの子イスカリオテのユダに與へたまふ。 | Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. |
| 27 | ユダ一撮の食物を受くるや、惡魔かれに入りたり。イエス彼に言ひたまふ『なんぢが爲すことを速かに爲せ』 | And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. |
| 28 | 席に著きゐたる者は一人として、何 故かく言ひ給ふかを知らず。 | Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. |
| 29 | ある人々は、ユダが財嚢を預るによりて『祭のために要する物を買へ』とイエスの言ひ給へるか、また貧しき者に何か施さしめ給ふならんと思へり。 | For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. |
| 30 | ユダ一撮の食物を受くるや、直ちに出づ、時は夜なりき。 | He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night. |
| 31 | ユダの出でし後、イエス言ひ給ふ『今や人の子、榮光をうく、神も彼によりて榮光をうけ給ふ。 | Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. |
| 32 | 神かれに由りて榮光をうけ給はば、神も己によりて彼に榮光を與へ給はん、直ちに與へ給ふべし。 | If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him. |
| 33 | 若子よ、我なほ暫く汝らと偕にあり、汝らは我を尋ねん、されど曾てユダヤ人に「なんぢらは我が往く處に來ること能はず」と言ひし如く、今 汝らにも然か言ふなり。 | Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. |
| 34 | われ新しき誡命を汝らに與ふ、なんぢら相 愛すべし。わが汝らを愛せしごとく、汝らも相 愛すべし。 | A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. |
| 35 | 互に相 愛する事をせば、之によりて人みな汝らの我が弟子たるを知らん』 | By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. |
| 36 | シモン・ペテロ言ふ『主よ、何處にゆき給ふか』イエス答へ給ふ『わが往く處に、なんぢ今は從ふこと能はず。されど後に從はん』 | Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. |
| 37 | ペテロ言ふ『主よ、いま從ふこと能はぬは何 故ぞ、我は汝のために生命を棄てん』 | Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. |
| 38 | イエス答へ給ふ『なんぢ我がために生命を棄つるか、誠にまことに汝に告ぐ、なんぢ三度われを否むまでは、鷄 鳴かざるべし』 | Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice. |
