1 我また一つの獸の海より上るを見たり。之に十の角と七つの頭とあり、その角に十の冠冕あり、頭の上には神を涜す名あり。 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 わが見し獸は豹に似て、その足は熊のごとく、その口は獅子の口のごとし。龍はこれに己が能力と己が座位と大なる權威とを與へたり。 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3 我その頭の一つ傷つけられて死ぬばかりなるを見しが、その死ぬべき傷いやされたれば、全地の者これを怪しみて獸に從へり。 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
4 また龍おのが權威を獸に與へしによりて、彼ら龍を拜し、且その獸を拜して言ふ『たれか此の獸に等しき者あらん、誰か之と戰ふことを得ん』 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5 獸また大言と涜言とを語る口を與へられ、四十 二个月のあひだ働く權威を與へらる。 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6 彼は口をひらきて神を涜し、又その御名とその幕屋すなはち天に住む者どもとを涜し、 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 また聖徒に戰鬪を挑みて、之に勝つことを許され、且もろもろの族・民・國語・國を掌どる權威を與へらる。 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8 凡て地に住む者にて、其の名を屠られ給ひし羔羊の生命の書に、世の創より記されざる者は、これを拜せん。 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 人もし耳あらば聽くべし。 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
10 虜にせらるべき者は虜にせられん、劍にて殺す者はおのれも劍にて殺さるべし、聖徒たちの忍耐と信仰とは茲にあり。 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
11 我また他の獸の地より上るを見たり。これに羔羊のごとき角 二つありて龍のごとく語り、 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 先の獸の凡ての權威を彼の前にて行ひ、地と地に住む者とをして死ぬべき傷の醫されたる先の獸を拜せしむ。 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 また大なる徴をおこなひ、人々の前にて火を天より地に降らせ、 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 かの獸の前にて行ふことを許されし徴をもて地に住む者どもを惑し、劍にうたれてなほ生ける獸の像を造ることを地に住む者どもに命じたり。 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 而してその獸の像に息を與へて物 言はしめ、且その獸の像を拜せぬ者をことごとく殺さしむる事を許され、 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 また凡ての人をして、大小・貧富・自主・奴隷の別なく、或はその右の手、あるいは其の額に徽章を受けしむ。 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 この徽章を有たぬ凡ての者に賣買することを得ざらしめたり。その徽章は獸の名、もしくは其の名の數字なり。 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 智慧は茲にあり、心ある者は獸の數字を算へよ。獸の數字は人の數字にして、その數字は六 百 六十 六なり。 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
