1 されば主に在りて囚人たる我なんぢらに勸む。汝ら召されたる召に適ひて歩み、 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 事 毎に謙遜と柔和と寛容とを用ひ、愛をもて互に忍び、 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3 平和の繋のうちに勉めて御靈の賜ふ一致を守れ。 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 體は一つ、御靈は一つなり。汝らが召にかかはる一つ望をもて召されたるが如し。 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 主は一つ、信仰は一つ、バプテスマは一つ、 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 凡ての者の父なる神は一つなり。神は凡てのものの上に在し、凡てのものを貫き、凡てのものの内に在したまふ。 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7 我等はキリストの賜物の量に隨ひて、おのおの恩惠を賜はりたり。 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8 されば云へることあり『かれ高きところに昇りしとき、多くの虜をひきゐ、人々に賜物を賜へり』と。 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 既に昇りしと云へば、まづ地の低き處まで降りしにあらずや。 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 降りし者は即ち萬の物に滿たん爲に、もろもろの天の上に昇りし者なり。 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 彼は或 人を使徒とし、或 人を預言者とし、或 人を傳道者とし、或 人を牧師・教師として與へ給へり。 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 これ聖徒を全うして職を行はせ、キリストの體を建て、 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 我等をしてみな信仰と神の子を知る知識とに一致せしめ、全き人、すなはちキリストの滿ち足れるほどに至らせ、 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 また我等はもはや幼童ならず、人の欺騙と誘惑の術たる惡巧とより起る樣々の教の風に吹きまはされず、 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 ただ愛をもて眞を保ち、育ちて凡てのこと首なるキリストに達せん爲なり。 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16 彼を本とし全身は凡ての節々の助にて整ひ、かつ聯り、肢體おのおの量に應じて働くにより、その體 成長し、自ら愛によりて建てらるるなり。 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
17 されば我これを言ひ、主に在りて證す、なんぢら今よりのち、異邦人のその心の虚無に任せて歩むが如く歩むな。 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 彼らは念 暗くなりて、其の内なる無知により、心の頑固によりて神の生命に遠ざかり、 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 恥を知らず、放縱に凡ての汚穢を行はんとて己を好色に付せり。 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 されど汝らはかくの如くならん爲にキリストを學べるにあらず。 But ye have not so learned Christ;
21 汝らは彼に聞き、彼に在りてイエスにある眞理に循ひて教へられしならん。 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 即ち汝ら誘惑の慾のために亡ぶべき前の動作に屬ける舊き人を脱ぎすて、 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 心の靈を新にし、 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 眞理より出づる義と聖とにて、神に象り造られたる新しき人を著るべきことなり。 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 されば虚僞をすてて各自その隣に實をかたれ、我ら互に肢なればなり。 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26 汝ら怒るとも罪を犯すな、憤恚を日の入るまで續くな。 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27 惡魔に機會を得さすな。 Neither give place to the devil.
28 盜する者は今よりのち盜すな、むしろ貧しき者に分け與へ得るために手づから働きて善き業をなせ。 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29 惡しき言を一切なんぢらの口より出すな、ただ時に隨ひて人の徳を建つべき善き言を出して、聽く者に益を得させよ。 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30 神の聖 靈を憂ひしむな、汝らは贖罪の日のために聖 靈にて印せられたるなり。 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 凡ての苦・憤恚・怒・喧噪・誹謗、および凡ての惡意を汝 等より棄てよ。 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 互に仁慈と憐憫とあれ、キリストに在りて神の汝らを赦し給ひしごとく、汝らも互に赦せ。 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
