1 聽け、富める者よ、なんぢらの上に來らんとする艱難のために泣きさけべ。 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 汝らの財は朽ち、汝らの衣は蠧み、 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 汝らの金 銀は錆びたり。この錆なんぢらに對ひて證をなし、かつ火のごとく汝らの肉を蝕はん。汝 等この末の世に在りてなほ財を蓄へたり。 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
4 視よ、汝 等がその畑を刈り入れたる勞動人に拂はざりし値は叫び、その刈りし者の呼聲は萬軍の主の耳に入れり。 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
5 汝らは地にて奢り樂しみ、屠らるる日に在りて尚おのが心を飽かせり。 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
6 汝らは正しき者を罪に定め、且これを殺せり、彼は汝らに抵抗することなし。 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
7 兄弟よ、主の來り給ふまで耐へ忍べ。視よ、農夫は地の貴き實を、前と後との雨を得るまで耐へ忍びて待つなり。 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
8 汝らも耐へ忍べ、なんぢらの心を堅うせよ。主の來り給ふこと近づきたればなり。 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
9 兄弟よ、互に怨言をいふな、恐らくは審かれん。視よ、審判 主、門の前に立ちたまふ。 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
10 兄弟よ、主の名によりて語りし預言者たちを苦難と耐忍との模範とせよ。 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
11 視よ、我らは忍ぶ者を幸福なりと思ふ。なんぢらヨブの忍耐を聞けり、主の彼に成し給ひし果を見たり、即ち主は慈悲ふかく、かつ憐憫あるものなり。 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
12 わが兄弟よ、何事よりも先づ誓ふな、或は天、あるひは地、あるひは其の他のものを指して誓ふな。只なんぢら然りは然り否は否とせよ、罪に定めらるる事なからん爲なり。 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
13 汝 等のうち苦しむ者あるか、その人、祈せよ。喜ぶ者あるか、その人、讃美せよ。 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 汝 等のうち病める者あるか、その人、教會の長老たちを招け。彼らは主の名により其の人に油をぬりて祈るべし。 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 さらば信仰の祈は病める者を救はん、主かれを起し給はん、もし罪を犯しし事あらば赦されん。 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 この故に互に罪を言ひ表し、かつ癒されんために相 互に祈れ、正しき人の祈ははたらきて大なる力あり。 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17 エリヤは我らと同じ情をもてる人なるに、雨 降らざることを切に祈りしかば、三年 六个月のあひだ地に雨 降らざりき。 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 かくて再び祈りたれば、天 雨を降らし、地その果を生ぜり。 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
19 わが兄弟よ、汝 等のうち眞理より迷ふ者あらんに、誰か之を引囘さば、 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 その人は知れ、罪人をその迷へる道より引囘す者は、かれの靈魂を死より救ひ、多くの罪を掩ふことを。 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
