1 されば凡て人を審く者よ、なんぢ言ひ遁るる術なし、他の人を審くは、正しく己を罪するなり。人をさばく汝もみづから同じ事を行へばなり。 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 かかる事をおこなふ者を罪する神の審判は眞理に合へりと我らは知る。 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 かかる事をおこなふ者を審きて自己これを行ふ人よ、なんぢ神の審判を遁れんと思ふか。 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 神の仁慈なんぢを悔改に導くを知らずして、その仁慈と忍耐と寛容との豐なるを輕んずるか。 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5 なんぢ頑固と悔改めぬ心とにより、己のために神の怒を積みて、その正しき審判の顯るる怒の日に及ぶなり。 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 神はおのおのの所作に隨ひて報い、 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 耐へ忍びて善をおこない光榮と尊貴と朽ちざる事とを求むる者には、永遠の生命をもて報い、 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 徒黨により眞理に從はずして不義にしたがう者には、怒と憤恚とをもて報い給はん。 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 すべて惡をおこなふ人には、ユダヤ人を始めギリシヤ人にも患難と苦難とあり。 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 凡て善をおこなふ人には、ユダヤ人を始めギリシヤ人にも光榮と尊貴と平安とあらん。 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 そは神には偏り視 給ふこと無ければなり。 For there is no respect of persons with God.
12 凡そ律法なくして罪を犯したる者は律法なくして滅び、律法ありて罪を犯したる者は律法によりて審かるべし。 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 律法を聞くもの神の前に義たるにあらず、律法をおこなふ者のみ義とせらるべし。―― (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14 律法を有たぬ異邦人、もし本性のまま律法に載せたる所をおこなふ時は、律法を有たずともおのづから己が律法たるなり。 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 即ち律法の命ずる所のその心に録されたるを顯し、おのが良心もこれを證をなして、その念、たがひに或は訴へ或は辯明す。―― Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
16 是わが福音に云へる如く、神のキリスト・イエスによりて人々の隱れたる事を審きたまふ日に成るべし。 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
17 汝ユダヤ人と稱へられ、律法に安んじ、神を誇り、 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
18 その御意を知り、律法に教へられて善惡を辨へ、 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
19 また律法のうちに知識と眞理との式を有てりとして、盲人の手引、暗黒にをる者の光明、 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
20 愚なる者の守役、幼兒の教師なりと自ら信ずる者よ、 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
21 何ゆゑ人に教へて己を教へぬか、竊む勿れと宣べて自ら竊むか、 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
22 姦淫する勿れと言ひて姦淫するか、偶像を惡みて宮の物を奪ふか、 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
23 律法に誇りて律法を破り神を輕んずるか。 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?
24 録して『神の名は汝らの故によりて異邦人の中に涜さる』とあるが如し。 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
25 なんぢ律法を守らば割禮は益あり、律法を破らば汝の割禮は無 割禮となるなり。 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.
26 割禮なき者も律法の義を守らば、その無 割禮は割禮とせらるるにあらずや。 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
27 本性のまま割禮なくして律法を全うする者は、儀文と割禮とありてなほ律法をやぶる汝を審かん。 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?
28 それ表面のユダヤ人はユダヤ人たるにあらず、肉に在る表面の割禮は割禮たるにあらず。 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 隱なるユダヤ人はユダヤ人なり、儀文によらず、靈による心の割禮は割禮なり、その譽は人よりにあらず、神より來るなり。 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
