| 1 | 凡ての人、上にある權威に服ふべし。そは神によらぬ權威なく、あらゆる權威は神によりて立てらる。 | Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. |
| 2 | この故に權威にさからふ者は神の定に悖るなり、悖る者は自らその審判を招かん。 | Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. |
| 3 | 長たる者は善き業の懼にあらず、惡しき業の懼なり、なんぢ權威を懼れざらんとするか、善をなせ、然らば彼より譽を得ん。 | For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: |
| 4 | かれは汝を益せんための神の役者なり。然れど惡をなさば懼れよ、彼は徒らに劍をおびず、神の役者にして、惡をなす者に怒をもて報ゆるなり。 | For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. |
| 5 | 然れば服はざるべからず、啻に怒の爲のみならず、良心のためなり。 | Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. |
| 6 | また之がために汝ら貢を納む、彼らは神の仕人にして此の職に勵むなり。 | For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. |
| 7 | 汝 等その負債をおのおのに償へ、貢を受くべき者に貢ををさめ、税を受くべき者に税ををさめ、畏るべき者をおそれ、尊ぶべき者をたふとべ。 | Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. |
| 8 | 汝 等たがひに愛を負ふのほか何をも人に負ふな。人を愛する者は律法を全うするなり。 | Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. |
| 9 | それ『姦淫する勿れ、殺すなかれ、盜むなかれ、貪るなかれ』と云へるこの他なほ誡命ありとも『おのれの如く隣を愛すべし』といふ言の中にみな籠るなり。 | For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
| 10 | 愛は隣を害はず、この故に愛は律法の完全なり。 | Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. |
| 11 | なんぢら時を知る故に、いよいよ然なすべし。今は眠より覺むべき時なり。始めて信ぜし時よりも今は我らの救 近ければなり。 | And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. |
| 12 | 夜ふけて日 近づきぬ、然れば我ら暗黒の業をすてて光明の甲を著るべし。 | The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. |
| 13 | 晝のごとく正しく歩みて宴樂・醉酒に、淫樂・好色に、爭鬪・嫉妬に歩むべきに非ず。 | Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. |
| 14 | ただ汝ら主イエス・キリストを衣よ、肉の慾のために備すな。 | But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. |
