| 1 | されば兄弟よ、終に我ら主イエスによりて汝らに求め、かつ勸む。なんぢら如何に歩みて神を悦ばすべきかを我等より學びし如く、また歩みをる如くに増々 進まんことを。 | Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. |
| 2 | 我らが主イエスに頼りて如何なる命令を與へしかは、汝らの知る所なり。 | For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. |
| 3 | それ神の御旨は、なんぢらの潔からんことにして、即ち淫行をつつしみ、 | For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: |
| 4 | 各人おのが妻を得て、潔くかつ貴くし、 | That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; |
| 5 | 神を知らぬ異邦人のごとく情 慾を放縱にすまじきを知り、 | Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: |
| 6 | かかる事によりて兄弟を欺き、また掠めざらんことなり。凡て此 等のことを行ふ者に主の報し給ふは、わが既に汝らに告げ、かつ證せしごとし。 | That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. |
| 7 | 神の我らを招き給ひしは、汚穢を行はしめん爲にあらず、潔からしめん爲なり。 | For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. |
| 8 | この故に之を拒む者は人を拒むにあらず、汝らに聖 靈を與へたまふ神を拒むなり。 | He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit. |
| 9 | 兄弟の愛につきては汝らに書きおくるに及ばず。汝らは互に相 愛する事を親しく神に教へられ、 | But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. |
| 10 | また既にマケドニヤ全國に在るすべての兄弟を愛するに因りてなり。されど兄弟よ、なんぢらに勸む。ますます之を行ひ、 | And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; |
| 11 | 我らが前に命ぜしことく力めて安靜にし、己の業をなし、手づから働け。 | And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; |
| 12 | これ外の人に對して正しく行ひ、また自ら乏しきことなからん爲なり。 | That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. |
| 13 | 兄弟よ、既に眠れる者のことに就きては、汝らの知らざるを好まず、希望なき他の人のごとく歎かざらん爲なり。 | But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. |
| 14 | 我らの信ずる如く、イエスもし死にて甦へり給ひしならば、神はイエスによりて眠に就きたる者を、イエスと共に連れきたり給ふべきなり。 | For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. |
| 15 | われら主の言をもて汝らに言はん、我等のうち主の來りたまふ時に至るまで生きて存れる者は、既に眠れる者に決して先だたじ。 | For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. |
| 16 | それ主は、號令と御使の長の聲と神のラッパと共に、みづから天より降り給はん。その時キリストにある死人まづ甦へり、 | For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: |
| 17 | 後に生きて存れる我らは、彼らと共に雲のうちに取り去られ、空中にて主を迎へ、斯くていつまでも主と偕に居るべし。 | Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. |
| 18 | されば此 等の言をもて互に相 慰めよ。 | Wherefore comfort one another with these words. |
