| 2 | キリストの福音において神の役者たる我らの兄弟テモテを汝らに遣せり。これは汝らを堅うし、また信仰につきて勸め、 | And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith: |
| 3 | この患難によりて動かさるる者の無からん爲なり。患難に遭ふことの我らに定りたるは、汝 等みづから知る所なり。 | That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. |
| 4 | 我らが患難に遭ふべきことは、汝らと偕に在りしとき預じめ告げたるが、今 果して汝らの知るごとく然か成れり。 | For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know. |
| 5 | この故に最早われ忍ぶこと能はず、試むる者の汝らを試みて、我らの勞の空しくならんことを恐れ、なんぢらの信仰を知らんとて人を遣せり。 | For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain. |
| 6 | 然るに今テモテ汝らより歸りて、汝らの信仰と愛とにつきて喜ばしき音信を聞かせ、又なんぢら常に我らを懇ろに念ひ、我らに逢はんことを切に望み居るは、我らが汝らに逢はんことを望むに等しと告げたるによりて、 | But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you: |
| 7 | 兄弟よ、われらは諸般の苦難と患難との中にも、汝らの信仰によりて慰安を得たり。 | Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: |
| 8 | 汝 等もし主に在りて堅く立たば我らは生くるなり。 | For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. |
| 9 | 汝 等につきて我らの神の前によろこぶ大なる喜悦のために、如何なる感謝をか神に献ぐべき。 | For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God; |
| 10 | 我らは夜晝 祈りて、汝らの顏を見んことと、汝らの信仰の足らぬ所を補はんこととを切に願ふ。 | Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith? |
| 11 | 願はくは我らの父なる神みづからと我らの主なるイエスと、我らを導きて汝らに到らせ給はんことを。 | Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. |
| 12 | 願はくは主、なんぢら相 互の愛および凡ての人に對する愛を増し、かつ豐にして、我らが汝らを愛する如くならしめ、 | And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: |
| 13 | かくして汝らの心を堅うし、我らの主イエスの、凡ての聖徒と偕に來りたまふ時、われらの父なる神の前に潔くして責むべき所なからしめ給はんことを。 | To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. |
