1 汝 等もしキリストと共に甦へらせられしならば、上にあるものを求めよ、キリスト彼處に在りて神の右に坐し給ふなり。 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 汝ら上にあるものを念ひ、地に在るものを念ふな、 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 汝らは死にたる者にして、其の生命はキリストとともに神の中に隱れ在ればなり。 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 我らの生命なるキリストの現れ給ふとき、汝らも之とともに榮光のうちに現れん。 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5 されば地にある肢體、すなはち淫行・汚穢・情 慾・惡 慾・また慳貪を殺せ、慳貪は偶像 崇拜なり。 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 神の怒は、これらの事によりて不 從順の子らに來るなり。 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 汝らもかかる人の中に日を送りし時は、これらの惡しき事に歩めり。 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 されど今は凡て此 等のこと及び怒・憤恚・惡意を棄て、譏と恥づべき言とを汝らの口より棄てよ。 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 互に虚言をいふな、汝らは既に舊き人とその行爲とを脱ぎて、 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 新しき人を著たればなり。この新しき人は、これを造り給ひしものの像に循ひ、いよいよ新になりて知識に至るなり。 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 かくてギリシヤ人とユダヤ人、割禮と無 割禮、あるひは夷狄、スクテヤ人・奴隷・自主の別ある事なし、それキリストは萬の物なり、萬のものの中にあり。 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12 この故に汝らは神の選民にして聖なる者また愛せらるる者なれば、慈悲の心・仁慈・謙遜・柔和・寛容を著よ。 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 また互に忍びあひ、若し人に責むべき事あらば互に恕せ、主の汝らを恕し給へる如く汝らも然すべし。 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14 凡て此 等のものの上に愛を加へよ、愛は徳を全うする帶なり。 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 キリストの平和をして汝らの心を掌どらしめよ、汝らの召されて一體となりたるはこれが爲なり、汝ら感謝の心を懷け。 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 キリストの言をして豐に汝らの衷に住ましめ、凡ての知慧によりて、詩と讃美と靈の歌とをもて、互に教へ互に訓戒し、恩惠に感じて心のうちに神を讃美せよ。 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 また爲す所の凡ての事、あるひは言あるひは行爲、みな主イエスの名に頼りて爲し、彼によりて父なる神に感謝せよ。 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
18 妻たる者よ、その夫に服へ、これ主にある者のなすべき事なり。 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
19 夫たる者よ、その妻を愛せよ、苦をもて之を待ふな。 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
20 子たる者よ、凡ての事みな兩親に順へ、これ主の喜びたまふ所なり。 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
21 父たる者よ、汝らの子供を怒らすな、或は落膽することあらん。 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
22 僕たる者よ、凡ての事みな肉につける主人にしたがへ、人を喜ばする者の如く、ただ眼の前の事のみを勤めず、主を畏れ、眞心をもて從へ。 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
23 汝ら何事をなすにも人に事ふる如くせず、主に事ふる如く心より行へ。 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24 汝らは主より報として嗣業を受くることを知ればなり。汝らは主キリストに事ふる者なり。 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
25 不義を行ふ者はその不義の報を受けん、主は偏り視 給ふことなし。 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
