1 兄弟よ、我らマケドニヤの諸 教會に賜ひたる神の恩惠を汝らに知らす。 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
2 即ち患難の大なる試練のうちに彼らの喜悦あふれ、又その甚だしき貧窮は吝みなく施す富の溢るるに至れり。 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
3 われ證す、彼らは聖徒に事ふることに與る惠を切に我らに請ひ求め、みづから進みて、力に應じ、否これに過ぎて施濟をなせり。 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;
4 われ證す、彼らは聖徒に事ふることに與る惠を切に我らに請ひ求め、みづから進みて、力に應じ、否これに過ぎて施濟をなせり。 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
5 我らの望のほかに先づ己を主にささげ、神の御意によりて我らにも身を委ねたり。 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
6 されば我らはテトスが前に此の慈惠のことを汝らの中に始めたれば、又これを成就せんことを勸めたり。 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.
7 汝 等もろもろの事、すなはち信仰に、言に、知識に、凡ての奮勵に、また我らに對する愛に富めるごとく、此の慈惠にも富むべし。 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.
8 われ斯く言ふは汝らに命ずるにあらず、ただ他の人の奮勵によりて、汝らの愛の眞實を試みん爲なり。 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.
9 汝らは我らの主イエス・キリストの恩惠を知る。即ち富める者にて在したれど、汝 等のために貧しき者となり給へり。これ汝らが彼の貧窮によりて富める者とならん爲なり。 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
10 施濟のことに就きて我ただ意見を述ぶ、これは汝らの益なり。汝らは此の事をただに一年 前より人に先だちて行ひしのみならず、又これを願い始めし事なれば、 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.
11 今これを成し遂げよ、汝らが心より願ひしごとく、所有に應じて成し遂げよ。 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.
12 人もし志望あらば、其の有たぬ所に由るにあらず、其の有つ所に由りて嘉納せらるるなり。 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
13 これ他の人を安くして汝らを苦しめんとにあらず、均しくせんとするなり。 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:
14 すなはち今なんぢらの餘るところは彼らの足らざるを補ひ、後また彼らの餘る所は汝らの足らざるを補ひて、均しくなるに至らんためなり。 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:
15 録して『多く集めし者にも餘る所なく、少く集めし者にも足らざる所なかりき』とあるが如し。 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.
16 汝らに對する同じ熱心をテトスの心にも賜へる神に感謝す。 But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.
17 彼はただに勸を容れしのみならず、甚だ熱心にして、自ら進んで汝らに往くなり。 For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.
18 我等また彼とともに一人の兄弟を遣す。この人は福音をもて諸 教會のうちに譽を得たる上に、 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;
19 主の榮光と我らの志望とを顯さんがために、掌どれる此の慈惠に就きて、諸 教會より我らの道伴として選ばれたる者なり。 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:
20 彼を遣すは、此の大なる醵金を掌どるに、人に咎めらるる事を避けんためなり。 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:
21 そは主の前のみならず、人の前にも善からんことを慮ぱかりてなり。 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
22 また一人の兄弟を彼らと共につかはす、我らは多くの事につきて屡次かれの熱心なるを認めたり。而して今は彼が汝らを深く信ずるに因りて、その熱心の更に加はるを認む。 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.
23 テトスのことを言へば、我が友なり、汝らに對して我が同勞者なり。この兄弟たちの事をいへば、彼らは諸 教會の使なり、キリストの榮光なり。 Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.
24 されば汝らの愛と我らが汝らに就きて誇れる事との證を、諸 教會の前にて彼らに顯せ。 Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.
