1 汝らが我に書きおくりし事に就きては、男の女に觸れぬを善しとす。 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 然れど淫行を免れんために、男はおのおの其の妻をもち、女はおのおの其の夫を有つべし。 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
3 夫はその分を妻に盡し、妻もまた夫に然すべし。 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4 妻は己が身を支配する權をもたず、之を持つ者は夫なり。斯くのごとく夫も己が身を支配する權を有たず、之を有つ者は妻なり。 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
5 相 共に拒むな、ただ祈に身を委ぬるため合意にて暫く相 別れ、後また偕になるは善し。これ汝らが情の禁じがたきに乘じてサタンの誘ふことなからん爲なり。 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
6 されど我が斯くいふは命ずるにあらず、許すなり。 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
7 わが欲する所は、すべての人の我が如くならん事なり。然れど神より各自おのが賜物を受く、此は此のごとく、彼は彼のごとし。 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
8 我は婚姻せぬ者および寡婦に言ふ。もし我が如くにして居らば、彼 等のために善し。 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
9 もし自ら制すること能はずば婚姻すべし、婚姻するは胸の燃ゆるよりも勝ればなり。 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
10 われ婚姻したる者に命ず（命ずる者は我にあらず、主なり）妻は夫と別るべからず。 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
11 もし別るる事あらば、嫁がずして居るか、又は夫と和げ。夫もまた妻を去るべからず。 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
12 その外の人に我いふ（主の言ひ給ふにあらず）もし或 兄弟に不 信者なる妻ありて偕に居ることを可しとせば、之を去るな。 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
13 また女に不 信者なる夫ありて偕に居ることを可しとせば、夫を去るな。 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
14 そは不 信者なる夫は妻によりて潔くなり、不 信者なる妻は夫によりて潔くなりたればなり。然なくば汝らの子供は潔からず、されど今は潔き者なり。 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
15 不 信者みづから離れ去らば、その離るるに任せよ。斯くのごとき事あらば、兄弟または姉妹、もはや繋がるる所なし。神の汝らを召し給へるは平和を得させん爲なり。 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
16 妻よ、汝いかで夫を救ひ得るや否やを知らん。夫よ、汝いかで妻を救ひ得るや否やを知らん。 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
17 唯おのおの主の分ち賜ふところ、神の召し給ふところに循ひて歩むべし。凡ての教會に我が命ずるは斯くのごとし。 But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
18 割禮ありて召されし者あらんか、その人、割禮を廢つべからず。割禮なくして召されし者あらんか、その人、割禮を受くべからず。 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
19 割禮を受くるも受けぬも數ふるに足らず、ただ貴きは神の誡命を守ることなり。 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
20 各人その召されし時の状に止るべし。 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
21 なんぢ奴隷にて召されたるか、之を思ひ煩ふな（もし釋さるることを得ばゆるされよ） Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
22 召されて主にある奴隷は、主につける自主の人なり。斯くのごとく自主にして召されたる者は、キリストの奴隷なり。 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.
23 汝らは價をもて買はれたる者なり。人の奴隷となるな。 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
24 兄弟よ、おのおの召されし時の状に止りて神と偕に居るべし。 Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
25 處女のことに就きては主の命を受けず、然れど主の憐憫によりて忠實の者となりたれば、我が意見を告ぐべし。 Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.
26 われ思ふに、目前の患難のためには、人その在るが隨にて止るぞ善き。 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
27 なんぢ妻に繋がるる者なるか、釋くことを求むな。妻に繋がれぬ者なるか、妻を求むな。 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
28 たとひ妻を娶るとも罪を犯すにはあらず。處女もし嫁ぐとも罪を犯すにあらず。然れどかかる者はその身、苦難に遭はん、我なんぢらを苦難に遭はすに忍びず。 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
29 兄弟よ、われ之を言はん、時は縮れり。されば此よりのち妻を有てる者は有たぬが如く、 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
30 泣く者は泣かぬが如く、喜ぶ者は喜ばぬが如く、買ふ者は有たぬが如く、 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
31 世を用ふる者は用ひ盡さぬが如くすべし。此の世の状態は過ぎ往くべければなり。 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
32 わが欲する所は汝らが思ひ煩はざらん事なり。婚姻せぬ者は如何にして主を喜ばせんと主のことを慮ぱかり、 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
33 婚姻せし者は如何にして妻を喜ばせんと、世のことを慮ぱかりて心を分つなり。 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
34 婚姻せぬ女と處女とは身も靈も潔くならんために主のことを慮ぱかり、婚姻せし者は如何にしてその夫を喜ばせんと世のことを慮ぱかるなり。 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
35 わが之を言ふは汝らを益せん爲にして、汝らに絆を置かんとするにあらず、寧ろ汝らを宣しきに適はせ、餘念なく只管、主に事へしめんとてなり。 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
36 人もし處女たる己が娘に對すること宣しきに適はずと思ひ、年の頃もまた過ぎんとし、かつ然せざるを得ずば、心のままに行ふべし。これ罪を犯すにあらず、婚姻せさすべし。 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
37 されど人もし其の心を堅くし、止むを得ざる事もなく、又おのが心の隨になすを得て、その娘を留め置かんと心のうちに定めたらば、然するは善きなり。 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
38 されば其の娘を嫁がする者の行爲は善し。されど之を嫁がせぬ者の行爲は更に善し。 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.
39 妻は夫の生ける間は繋がるるなり。然れど夫もし死なば、欲するままに嫁ぐ自由を得べし、また主にある者にのみ適くべし。 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
40 然れど我が意見にては、その儘に止らば殊に幸福なり。我もまた神の御靈に感じたりと思ふ。 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.
