1 人よろしく我らをキリストの役者また神の奧義を掌どる家 司のごとく思ふべし。 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
2 さて家 司に求むべきは忠實ならん事なり。 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
3 我は汝らに審かれ、或は人の審判によりて審かるることを最 小き事とし、また自らも己を審かず。 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
4 我みづから責むべき所あるを覺えねど、之に由りて義とせらるる事なければなり。我を審きたまふ者は主なり。 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
5 然れば主の來り給ふまでは時に先だちて審判すな。主は暗にある隱れたる事を明かにし、心の謀計をあらはし給はん。その時おのおの神より其の譽を得べし。 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
6 兄弟よ、われ汝 等のために此 等のことを我とアポロとの上に當てて言へり。これ汝らが『録されたる所を踰ゆまじき』を我らの事によりて學び、この人をあげ、かの人を貶して誇らざらん爲なり。 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
7 汝をして人と異ならしむる者は誰ぞ、なんぢの有てる物に何か受けぬ物あるか。もし受けしならば、何ぞ受けぬごとく誇るか。 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
8 なんぢら既に飽き、既に富めり、我らを差措きて王となれり。われ實に汝らが王たらんことを願ふ、われらも共に王たることを得んが爲なり。 Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
9 我おもふ、神は使徒たる我らを死に定められし者のごとく、後の者として見せ給へり。實に我らは宇宙のもの、即ち御使にも、衆人にも、觀物にせられたるなり。 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.
10 我らはキリストのために愚なる者となり、汝らはキリストに在りて慧き者となれり。我等は弱く汝らは強し、汝らは尊く我らは卑し。 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.
11 今の時にいたるまで我らは飢ゑ、渇き、また裸となり、また打たれ、定れる住家なく、 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
12 手づから働きて勞し、罵らるるときは祝し、責めらるるときは忍び、 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
13 譏らるるときは勸をなせり。我らは今に至るまで世の塵芥のごとく、萬の物の垢のごとくせられたり。 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.
14 わが斯く書すは汝らを辱しめんとにあらず、我が愛する子として訓戒せんためなり。 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.
15 汝 等にはキリストに於ける守役 一萬ありとも、父は多くあることなし。そはキリスト・イエスに在りて福音により汝らを生みたるは、我なればなり。 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
16 この故に汝らに勸む、我に效ふ者とならんことを。 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
17 之がために主にありて忠實なる我が愛子テモテを汝らに遣せり。彼は我がキリストにありて行ふところ、即ち常に各地の教會に教ふる所を、汝らに思ひ出さしむべし。 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.
18 わが汝らに到ること無しとして誇る者あり。 Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.
19 されど主の御意ならば速かに汝 等にいたり、誇る者の言にはあらで、その能力を知らんとす。 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
20 神の國は言にあらず、能力にあればなり。 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
21 汝ら何を欲するか、われ笞をもて到らんか、愛と柔和の心とをもて到らんか。 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?
