절Good News Translation (1992)King James Version
It is better to be poor but honest than to be a lying fool. Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
Enthusiasm without knowledge is not good; impatience will get you into trouble. Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
Some people ruin themselves by their own stupid actions and then blame the Lord. The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.
Rich people are always finding new friends, but the poor cannot keep the few they have. Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
If you tell lies in court, you will be punished—there will be no escape. A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
Everyone tries to gain the favor of important people; everyone claims the friendship of those who give out favors. Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
Even the relatives of a poor person have no use for him; no wonder he has no friends. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot win any. All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
Do yourself a favor and learn all you can; then remember what you learn and you will prosper. He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
No one who tells lies in court can escape punishment; he is doomed. A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
Fools should not live in luxury, and slaves should not rule over noblemen. Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
If you are sensible, you will control your temper. When someone wrongs you, it is a great virtue to ignore it. The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
The king's anger is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like welcome rain. The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
Stupid children can bring their parents to ruin. A nagging wife is like water going drip-drip-drip. A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
A man can inherit a house and money from his parents, but only the Lord can give him a sensible wife. House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.
Go ahead and be lazy; sleep on, but you will go hungry. Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Keep God's laws and you will live longer; if you ignore them, you will die. He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
When you give to the poor, it is like lending to the Lord, and the Lord will pay you back. He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Discipline your children while they are young enough to learn. If you don't, you are helping them destroy themselves. Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
If someone has a hot temper, let him take the consequences. If you get him out of trouble once, you will have to do it again. A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
If you listen to advice and are willing to learn, one day you will be wise. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
People may plan all kinds of things, but the Lord's will is going to be done. There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.
It is a disgrace to be greedy; poor people are better off than liars. The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
Obey the Lord and you will live a long life, content and safe from harm. The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
Some people are too lazy to put food in their own mouths. A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
Arrogance should be punished, so that people who don't know any better can learn a lesson. If you are wise, you will learn when you are corrected. Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Only a shameful, disgraceful person would mistreat his father or turn his mother away from his home. He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
My child, when you stop learning, you will soon neglect what you already know. Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
There is no justice where a witness is determined to hurt someone. Wicked people love the taste of evil. An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
A conceited fool is sure to get a beating. Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
