|---|---|---|
We may make our plans, but God has the last word. | The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.
You may think everything you do is right, but the Lord judges your motives. | All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.
Ask the Lord to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out. | Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Everything the Lord has made has its destiny; and the destiny of the wicked is destruction. | The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
The Lord hates everyone who is arrogant; he will never let them escape punishment. | Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Be loyal and faithful, and God will forgive your sin. Obey the Lord and nothing evil will happen to you. | By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
When you please the Lord, you can make your enemies into friends. | When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
It is better to have a little, honestly earned, than to have a large income, dishonestly gained. | Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
You may make your plans, but God directs your actions. | A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
The king speaks with divine authority; his decisions are always right. | A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
The Lord wants weights and measures to be honest and every sale to be fair. | A just weight and balance are the Lord’s: all the weights of the bag are his work.
Kings cannot tolerate evil, because justice is what makes a government strong. | It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
A king wants to hear the truth and will favor those who speak it. | Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
A wise person will try to keep the king happy; if the king becomes angry, someone may die. | The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
The king's favor is like the clouds that bring rain in the springtime—life is there. | In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
It is better—much better—to have wisdom and knowledge than gold and silver. | How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
Those who are good travel a road that avoids evil; so watch where you are going—it may save your life. | The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
Pride leads to destruction, and arrogance to downfall. | Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
It is better to be humble and stay poor than to be one of the arrogant and get a share of their loot. | Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Pay attention to what you are taught, and you will be successful; trust in the Lord and you will be happy. | He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.
A wise, mature person is known for his understanding. The more pleasant his words, the more persuasive he is. | The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
Wisdom is a fountain of life to the wise, but trying to educate stupid people is a waste of time. | Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
Intelligent people think before they speak; what they say is then more persuasive. | The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
Kind words are like honey—sweet to the taste and good for your health. | Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
What you think is the right road may lead to death. | There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
A laborer's appetite makes him work harder, because he wants to satisfy his hunger. | He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
Evil people look for ways to harm others; even their words burn with evil. | An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
Gossip is spread by wicked people; they stir up trouble and break up friendships. | A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
Violent people deceive their friends and lead them to disaster. | A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
Watch out for people who grin and wink at you; they have thought of something evil. | He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
Long life is the reward of the righteous; gray hair is a glorious crown. | The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
It is better to be patient than powerful. It is better to win control over yourself than over whole cities. | He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
People cast lots to learn God's will, but God himself determines the answer. | The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.
