1
A Prayer for Help in Time of Trouble
Lord, don't be angry and rebuke me! Don't punish me in your anger!
O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
2 I am worn out, O Lord; have pity on me! Give me strength; I am completely exhausted Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
3 and my whole being is deeply troubled. How long, O Lord, will you wait to help me? My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O Lord, how long?
4 Come and save me, Lord; in your mercy rescue me from death. Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake.
5 In the world of the dead you are not remembered; no one can praise you there. For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
6 I am worn out with grief; every night my bed is damp from my weeping; my pillow is soaked with tears. I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
7 I can hardly see; my eyes are so swollen from the weeping caused by my enemies. Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
8 Keep away from me, you evil people! The Lord hears my weeping; Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping.
9 he listens to my cry for help and will answer my prayer. The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.
10 My enemies will know the bitter shame of defeat; in sudden confusion they will be driven away. Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.
