A Prayer for Protection Listen to my words, O Lord, and hear my sighs.
Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation. |
Listen to my cry for help, my God and king! I pray to you, O Lord; | Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.
you hear my voice in the morning; at sunrise I offer my prayer and wait for your answer. | My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
You are not a God who is pleased with wrongdoing; you allow no evil in your presence. | For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.
You cannot stand the sight of the proud; you hate all wicked people. | The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
You destroy all liars and despise violent, deceitful people. | Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.
But because of your great love I can come into your house; I can worship in your holy Temple and bow down to you in reverence. | But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.
Lord, I have so many enemies! Lead me to do your will; make your way plain for me to follow. | Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
What my enemies say can never be trusted; they only want to destroy. Their words are flattering and smooth, but full of deadly deceit. | For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
Condemn and punish them, O God; may their own plots cause their ruin. Drive them out of your presence because of their many sins and their rebellion against you. | Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
But all who find safety in you will rejoice; they can always sing for joy. Protect those who love you; because of you they are truly happy. | But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
You bless those who obey you, Lord; your love protects them like a shield. | For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
