Life in the Spirit There is no condemnation now for those who live in union with Christ Jesus.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. |
For the law of the Spirit, which brings us life in union with Christ Jesus, has set me free from the law of sin and death. | For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
What the Law could not do, because human nature was weak, God did. He condemned sin in human nature by sending his own Son, who came with a nature like our sinful nature, to do away with sin. | For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
God did this so that the righteous demands of the Law might be fully satisfied in us who live according to the Spirit, and not according to human nature. | That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Those who live as their human nature tells them to, have their minds controlled by what human nature wants. Those who live as the Spirit tells them to, have their minds controlled by what the Spirit wants. | For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace. | For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
And so people become enemies of God when they are controlled by their human nature; for they do not obey God's law, and in fact they cannot obey it. | Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Those who obey their human nature cannot please God. | So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
But you do not live as your human nature tells you to; instead, you live as the Spirit tells you to—if, in fact, God's Spirit lives in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. | But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
But if Christ lives in you, the Spirit is life for you because you have been put right with God, even though your bodies are going to die because of sin. | And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you. | But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
So then, my friends, we have an obligation, but it is not to live as our human nature wants us to. | Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
For if you live according to your human nature, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful actions, you will live. | For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Those who are led by God's Spirit are God's children. | For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
For the Spirit that God has given you does not make you slaves and cause you to be afraid; instead, the Spirit makes you God's children, and by the Spirit's power we cry out to God, “Father! my Father!” | For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
God's Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God's children. | The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Since we are his children, we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him; for if we share Christ's suffering, we will also share his glory. | And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
The Future Glory I consider that what we suffer at this present time cannot be compared at all with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. |
All of creation waits with eager longing for God to reveal his children. | For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
For creation was condemned to lose its purpose, not of its own will, but because God willed it to be so. Yet there was the hope | For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
that creation itself would one day be set free from its slavery to decay and would share the glorious freedom of the children of God. | Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
For we know that up to the present time all of creation groans with pain, like the pain of childbirth. | For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
But it is not just creation alone which groans; we who have the Spirit as the first of God's gifts also groan within ourselves as we wait for God to make us his children and set our whole being free. | And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
For it was by hope that we were saved; but if we see what we hope for, then it is not really hope. For who of us hopes for something we see? | For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. | But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
In the same way the Spirit also comes to help us, weak as we are. For we do not know how we ought to pray; the Spirit himself pleads with God for us in groans that words cannot express. | Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And God, who sees into our hearts, knows what the thought of the Spirit is; because the Spirit pleads with God on behalf of his people and in accordance with his will. | And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. | And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Those whom God had already chosen he also set apart to become like his Son, so that the Son would be the first among many believers. | For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
And so those whom God set apart, he called; and those he called, he put right with himself, and he shared his glory with them. | Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
God's Love in Christ Jesus In view of all this, what can we say? If God is for us, who can be against us?
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? |
Certainly not God, who did not even keep back his own Son, but offered him for us all! He gave us his Son—will he not also freely give us all things? | He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Who will accuse God's chosen people? God himself declares them not guilty! | Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
Who, then, will condemn them? Not Christ Jesus, who died, or rather, who was raised to life and is at the right side of God, pleading with him for us! | Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Who, then, can separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble do it, or hardship or persecution or hunger or poverty or danger or death? | Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As the scripture says, “For your sake we are in danger of death at all times; we are treated like sheep that are going to be slaughtered.” | As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us! | Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, | For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
neither the world above nor the world below—there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord. | Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
