The Last Days Remember that there will be difficult times in the last days.
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. |
People will be selfish, greedy, boastful, and conceited; they will be insulting, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, and irreligious; | For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
they will be unkind, merciless, slanderers, violent, and fierce; they will hate the good; | Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
they will be treacherous, reckless, and swollen with pride; they will love pleasure rather than God; | Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
they will hold to the outward form of our religion, but reject its real power. Keep away from such people. | Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Some of them go into people's houses and gain control over weak women who are burdened by the guilt of their sins and driven by all kinds of desires, | For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
women who are always trying to learn but who can never come to know the truth. | Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
As Jannes and Jambres were opposed to Moses, so also these people are opposed to the truth—people whose minds do not function and who are failures in the faith. | Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
But they will not get very far, because everyone will see how stupid they are. That is just what happened to Jannes and Jambres. | But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
Last Instructions But you have followed my teaching, my conduct, and my purpose in life; you have observed my faith, my patience, my love, my endurance,
But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, |
my persecutions, and my sufferings. You know all that happened to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra, the terrible persecutions I endured! But the Lord rescued me from them all. | Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
Everyone who wants to live a godly life in union with Christ Jesus will be persecuted; | Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
and evil persons and impostors will keep on going from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves. | But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
But as for you, continue in the truths that you were taught and firmly believe. You know who your teachers were, | But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
and you remember that ever since you were a child, you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. | And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, | All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed. | That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
