Church Worship First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, requests, and thanksgivings be offered to God for all people;
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; |
for kings and all others who are in authority, that we may live a quiet and peaceful life with all reverence toward God and with proper conduct. | For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
This is good and it pleases God our Savior, | For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
who wants everyone to be saved and to come to know the truth. | Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and there is one who brings God and human beings together, the man Christ Jesus, | For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
who gave himself to redeem the whole human race. That was the proof at the right time that God wants everyone to be saved, | Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
and that is why I was sent as an apostle and teacher of the Gentiles, to proclaim the message of faith and truth. I am not lying; I am telling the truth! | Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
In every church service I want the men to pray, men who are dedicated to God and can lift up their hands in prayer without anger or argument. | I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
I also want the women to be modest and sensible about their clothes and to dress properly; not with fancy hair styles or with gold ornaments or pearls or expensive dresses, | In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
but with good deeds, as is proper for women who claim to be religious. | But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
Women should learn in silence and all humility. | Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
I do not allow them to teach or to have authority over men; they must keep quiet. | But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
For Adam was created first, and then Eve. | For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
And it was not Adam who was deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and broke God's law. | And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
But a woman will be saved through having children, if she perseveres in faith and love and holiness, with modesty. | Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
