The Resurrection
Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, carrying the spices they had prepared.
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
They found the stone rolled away from the entrance to the tomb, And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
so they went in; but they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
They stood there puzzled about this, when suddenly two men in bright shining clothes stood by them. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
Full of fear, the women bowed down to the ground, as the men said to them, “Why are you looking among the dead for one who is alive? And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
He is not here; he has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was in Galilee: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
‘The Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, be crucified, and three days later rise to life.’” Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
Then the women remembered his words, And they remembered his words,
returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven disciples and all the rest. And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
The women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; they and the other women with them told these things to the apostles. It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
But the apostles thought that what the women said was nonsense, and they did not believe them. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; he bent down and saw the grave cloths but nothing else. Then he went back home amazed at what had happened. (,) Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

The Walk to Emmaus
On that same day two of Jesus' followers were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,
And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
and they were talking to each other about all the things that had happened. And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
As they talked and discussed, Jesus himself drew near and walked along with them; And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
they saw him, but somehow did not recognize him. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
Jesus said to them, “What are you talking about to each other, as you walk along?” They stood still, with sad faces. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only visitor in Jerusalem who doesn't know the things that have been happening there these last few days?” And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
“What things?” he asked. “The things that happened to Jesus of Nazareth,” they answered. “This man was a prophet and was considered by God and by all the people to be powerful in everything he said and did. And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
Our chief priests and rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and he was crucified. And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
And we had hoped that he would be the one who was going to set Israel free! Besides all that, this is now the third day since it happened. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
Some of the women of our group surprised us; they went at dawn to the tomb, Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
but could not find his body. They came back saying they had seen a vision of angels who told them that he is alive. And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
Some of our group went to the tomb and found it exactly as the women had said, but they did not see him.” And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
Then Jesus said to them, “How foolish you are, how slow you are to believe everything the prophets said! Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Was it not necessary for the Messiah to suffer these things and then to enter his glory?” Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
And Jesus explained to them what was said about himself in all the Scriptures, beginning with the books of Moses and the writings of all the prophets. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
As they came near the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther; And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
but they held him back, saying, “Stay with us; the day is almost over and it is getting dark.” So he went in to stay with them. But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
He sat down to eat with them, took the bread, and said the blessing; then he broke the bread and gave it to them. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he disappeared from their sight. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
They said to each other, “Wasn't it like a fire burning in us when he talked to us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
They got up at once and went back to Jerusalem, where they found the eleven disciples gathered together with the others And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
and saying, “The Lord is risen indeed! He has appeared to Simon!” Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
The two then explained to them what had happened on the road, and how they had recognized the Lord when he broke the bread. (; ; ; ) And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

Jesus Appears to His Disciples
While the two were telling them this, suddenly the Lord himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
They were terrified, thinking that they were seeing a ghost. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
But he said to them, “Why are you alarmed? Why are these doubts coming up in your minds? And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
Look at my hands and my feet, and see that it is I myself. Feel me, and you will know, for a ghost doesn't have flesh and bones, as you can see I have.” Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
He said this and showed them his hands and his feet. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
They still could not believe, they were so full of joy and wonder; so he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
They gave him a piece of cooked fish, And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
which he took and ate in their presence. And he took it, and did eat before them.
Then he said to them, “These are the very things I told you about while I was still with you: everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the writings of the prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.” And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
and said to them, “This is what is written: the Messiah must suffer and must rise from death three days later, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
and in his name the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins must be preached to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things. And ye are witnesses of these things.
And I myself will send upon you what my Father has promised. But you must wait in the city until the power from above comes down upon you.” (,; ) And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Jesus Is Taken Up to Heaven
Then he led them out of the city as far as Bethany, where he raised his hands and blessed them.
And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
As he was blessing them, he departed from them and was taken up into heaven. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
They worshiped him and went back into Jerusalem, filled with great joy, And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
and spent all their time in the Temple giving thanks to God. And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
