| 3 | Il mare lo vide, e fuggì; Il Giordano si rivolse a ritroso. | The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. |
| 4 | I monti saltarono come montoni, I colli come agnelli. | The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. |
| 5 | Che avesti, o mare, che tu fuggisti? E tu, Giordano, che ti rivolgesti a ritroso? | What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? |
| 6 | E voi, monti, che saltaste come montoni; E voi, colli, come agnelli? | Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs? |
