1 利亞 給雅各 所 生 的女兒 底拿 出去，要見 那地 的女子們。 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.
2 那地 的主─希未人、哈抹 的兒子 示劍 看見 她，就拉住 她，與她 行淫，玷辱她。 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her.
3 示劍的心 繫戀 雅各 的女兒 底拿，喜愛 這女子，甜言蜜語 地安慰她。 And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.
4 示劍 對 他父親 哈抹 說：「求你為我 聘 這 女子 為妻。」 And Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife.
5 雅各 聽見 示劍玷污了 他的女兒 底拿。那時他的兒子們 正 和 群畜 在田野，雅各 就閉口不言，等 他們回來。 And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.
6 示劍 的父親 哈抹 出來 見 雅各，要和他 商議。 And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him.
7 雅各 的兒子們 聽見這事，就從 田野 回來，人人 忿恨， 十分 惱怒；因 示劍在以色列 家做了 醜事，與 雅各 的女兒 行淫，這本是 不 該做的事。 And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter; which thing ought not to be done.
8 哈抹 和他們 商議 說：「我兒子 示劍 的心 戀慕 這女子，求 你們將她 給 我的兒子 為妻。 And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife.
9 你們與我們 彼此結親；你們可以把女兒 給 我們，也可以娶 我們的女兒。 And make ye marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.
10 你們與我們 同住吧！這地 都在 你們面前，只管在此居住，做買賣，置產業。」 And ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein.
11 示劍 對 女兒的父親 和 弟兄們 說：「但願我在你們眼前 蒙 恩，你們向我 要 甚麼，我必給你們。 And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give.
12 任憑向我 要 多重的 聘金 和禮物，我必照 你們所說的 給你們；只要把 女子 給 我 為妻。」 Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife.
13 雅各 的兒子們 因為 示劍玷污了 他們的妹子 底拿，就用詭詐 的話回答 示劍 和 他父親 哈抹， And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:
14 對他們 說：「我們不 能 把 我們的妹子 給 沒有受割禮的 人為妻，因為 那是 我們的 羞辱。 And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:
15 惟有 一件 才可以應允：若 你們 所有的 男丁 都受割禮， 和我們一樣， But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;
16 我們就把 女兒 給 你們，也娶 你們的女兒；我們便與你們 同住，兩下成為 一樣的 人民。 Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
17 倘若 你們不 聽從 我們 受割禮，我們就帶 著 妹子 走了。」 But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.
18 哈抹 和他 的兒子 示劍 喜歡 這話。 And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor’s son.
19 那少年人 做 這事 並不 遲延，因為 他喜愛 雅各 的女兒；他 在 他父親 家 中也是人最尊重的。 And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father.
20 哈抹 和他兒子 示劍 到 本城 的門口，對 本城 的人 說： And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,
21 「這些 人 與我們 和睦，不如許他們在這地 居住，做買賣； 這地 也寬闊，足可 容下他們。我們 可以娶 他們的女兒 為妻，也可以把 我們的女兒 嫁 給他們。 These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.
22 惟有 一件事我們必須做，他們 才肯應允 和我們 同住，成為 一樣 的人民：就是我們中間 所有的 男丁 都要受割禮，和他們 一樣。 Only herein will the men consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.
23 他們的群畜、貨財，和一切的 牲口 豈不 都歸 我們嗎？只要 依從 他們，他們就與我們 同住。」 Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.
24 凡 從城 門 出入 的人就都聽從 哈抹 和 他兒子 示劍的話；於是凡 從城 門 出入 的男丁 都 受了割禮。 And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.
25 到 第三 天，眾人正在 疼痛的時候，雅各 的兩 個兒子，就是底拿 的哥哥 西緬 和利未，各 拿 刀劍，趁著眾人想不到的時候 來 到 城中，把一切 男丁 都殺了， And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.
26 又用 刀 殺了 哈抹 和 他兒子 示劍，把 底拿 從示劍 家裡 帶出來 就走了。 And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went out.
27 雅各 的兒子們 因為 他們的妹子 受了玷污，就來 到 被殺的人那裡，擄掠 那城， The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.
28 奪了 他們的羊群、 牛群，和 驢，並 城裡 田間 所有的； They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field,
29 又把 他們一切 貨財、 孩子、 婦女，並 各房中 所有的，都擄 掠去了。 And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they captive, and spoiled even all that was in the house.
30 雅各 對 西緬 和 利未 說：「你們連累 我，使我在這地 的居民中，就是在迦南人 和比利洗人中，有了臭名。我 的人丁 既然稀少，他們必聚集 來擊殺 我，我 和全家 的人都必滅絕。」 And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.
31 他們說：「他豈可待 我們的妹子 如同妓女嗎？」 And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot?
