1 太初 有 道，道 與 神 同在，道 就是 神。 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 這道 太初與 神 同在。 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 萬物 是藉著 他 造的；凡被造的，沒有一樣 不是 藉著 他 造的。 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 生命 在 他裡頭，這 生命 就是 人 的光。 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 光 照在 黑暗裡， 黑暗 卻不 接受 光。 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 有 一個人，是從 神 那裡差來的，名叫 約翰。 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 這人 來，為要 作見證，就是為 光 作見證，叫 眾人 因 他 可以信。 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 他不 是 那 光，乃是 要為 光 作見證。 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 那光是 真 光，照亮 一切生在 世上的 人。 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 他在 世界，世界 也是藉著 他 造的，世界 卻不 認識 他。 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 他到 自己的 地方來，自己的人 倒不 接待 他。 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 凡接待 他 的，就是信 他 名的人，他就賜 他們 權柄 作 神 的兒女。 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 這等人 不是 從 血氣 生的，不是 從 情慾生的，也不是 從 人意生的，乃是 從 神生的。 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 道 成了 肉身，住在 我們 中間，充充滿滿地 有恩典 有真理。我們 也見過 他的 榮光，正是 父 獨生子 的榮光。 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 約翰 為 他 作見證，喊著 說：「這 就是 我曾說：『那在我 以後 來的，反成了 在我 以前的，因 他本來 在我 以前。』」 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 從 他 豐滿的恩典裡，我們 都 領受了，而且 恩上 加 恩。 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 律法 本是藉著 摩西 傳的；恩典 和 真理 都是由 耶穌 基督 來的。 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 從來 沒有人 看見 神， 只有 在 父 懷裡 的獨生子將他 表明出來。 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
19 約翰 所作的見證記在下面：猶太人 從 耶路撒冷 差 祭司 和 利未人 到 約翰那裡， 問 他說：「你 是 誰？」 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
20 他 就明說，並 不 隱瞞，明說：「我 不 是 基督。」 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21 他們 又問 他說：「這樣，你 是誰呢？是 以利亞嗎？」他 說：「我 不是。」「是 那先知嗎？」他 回答說：「不是。」 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
22 於是 他們 說：「你到底是 誰，叫 我們好回覆 差 我們來的人。你自己說，你 是誰？」 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
23 他說：「我 就是那在 曠野 有人聲 喊著說：『修直 主 的道路』，正如 先知 以賽亞 所說的。」 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
24 那些人 是 法利賽人 差來的（或譯：那差來的是法利賽人）； And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
25 他們 就問 他 說：「你 既不是 基督，不是 以利亞，也不是 那先知，為甚麼 施洗呢？」 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
26 約翰 回答 說：「我 是用 水 施洗，但有一位站在 你們 中間，是 你們 不 認識的， John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27 就是那在我 以後 來的，我 給他 解 鞋帶 也 不 配。」 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 這是 在 約旦河 外 伯大尼（有古卷：伯大巴喇），約翰 施洗 的地方 作的見證。 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 次日，約翰看見 耶穌 來到 他那裡， 就說：「看哪， 神 的羔羊，除去（或譯：背負）世人 罪孽的！ The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
30 這就是 我 曾說：『有一位 在我 以後 來、反成了 在我 以前的，因 他本來 在我 以前。』 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31 我 先前不 認識 他，如今 我 來 用 水 施洗，為要 叫 他顯明 給以色列人。」 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32 約翰 又作見證 說：「我曾看見 聖靈，彷彿 鴿子 從 天 降下，住在 他 的身上。 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 我 先前不 認識 他，只是 那差 我 來用 水 施洗的、對 我 說：『你看見 聖靈 降下來，住在 誰 的身上，誰 就是 用 聖 靈 施洗的。』 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34 我 看見了，就 證明 這 是 神 的兒子。」 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35 再 次日，約翰 同 兩個 門徒 站在那裡。 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 他 見 耶穌 行走，就說：「看哪，這是 神 的羔羊！」 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 兩個 門徒 聽見 他的話，就 跟從了 耶穌。 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 耶穌 轉過身來， 看見 他們 跟著，就問他們 說：「你們要 甚麼？」他們說：「拉比，在哪裡 住？」（拉比 翻出來 就是夫子。） Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
39 耶穌說：「你們 來 看。」他們就 去 看 他在哪裡 住，這一天 便與 他 同住；那 時 約 有 申正了。 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40 聽見 約翰 的話跟從 耶穌 的那 兩個人，一個 是 西門•彼得 的兄弟 安得烈。 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41 他 先 找著 自己的 哥哥 西門，對 他 說：「我們遇見 彌賽亞了。」（彌賽亞翻出來 就是 基督。） He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42 於是領 他 去見 耶穌。耶穌 看見 他，說：「你 是 約翰 的兒子 西門（約翰在馬太十六章十七節稱約拿），你 要稱為 磯法。」（磯法 翻出來 就是彼得。） And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
43 又次日，耶穌 想要 往 加利利 去，遇見 腓力，就 對他 說：「來跟從 我吧。」 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
44 這腓力 是 伯賽大人，和 安得烈、彼得 同 城。 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 腓力 找著 拿但業，對 他 說：「摩西 在 律法 上所寫的和 眾先知 所記的 那一位，我們遇見了，就是約瑟 的兒子 拿撒勒 人 耶穌。」 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46 拿但業 對他 說：「拿撒勒 還能 出 甚麼 好的嗎？」腓力 說：「你來 看！」 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
47 耶穌 看見 拿但業 來，就 指著 他 說：「看哪，這是個真 以色列人， 他 心裡是沒 有 詭詐的。」 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 拿但業 對耶穌 說：「你從哪裡 知道 我呢？」耶穌 回答 說：「腓力 還沒有 招呼 你，你在 無花果樹 底下，我就看見 你了。」 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 拿但業 說：「拉比，你 是 神 的兒子，你 是 以色列 的王！」 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 耶穌 對他 說：「因為 我說『 在無花果樹 底下 看見 你』，你就信嗎？你將要看見 比這 更大的事」； Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 又 說：「我實實在在地 告訴 你們，你們將要看見 天 開了， 神 的使者 上去 下來 在 人 子 身上。」 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
