| 1 | 耶和華 的話 二次 臨 到 約拿 說： | And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying, |
| 2 | 「你起來！往 尼尼微 大 城 去，向 其中的居民宣告 我 所 吩咐 你 的話。」 | Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. |
| 3 | 約拿 便照耶和華 的話 起來，往 尼尼微 去。這尼尼微 是 極 大 的城，有三 日 的路程。 | So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey. |
| 4 | 約拿 進 城 走了一 日，宣告 說：「再等 四十 日，尼尼微 必傾覆了！」 | And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. |
| 5 | 尼尼微 人 信服 神，便宣告 禁食，從最大的 到 至小的 都穿 麻衣（或譯：披上麻布）。 | So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. |
| 6 | 這信息 傳 到 尼尼微 王的耳中，他就下 了寶座，脫下 朝服，披上 麻布，坐 在 灰中。 | For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. |
| 7 | 他又使人遍告 尼尼微通城，說：「王 和大臣 有令，人 不可 嘗 甚麼，牲畜、牛 羊 不可 吃草，也不可 喝 水。 | And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: |
| 8 | 人 與牲畜 都當披上 麻布；人要切切 求告 神。各人 回頭 離開所行的惡 道，丟棄 手 中的強暴。 | But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. |
| 9 | 或者 神 轉意 後悔，不發 烈 怒，使我們不 致滅亡，也未可 知。」 | Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? |
| 10 | 於是 神 察看 他們的行為， 見他們離開 惡 道，他 就後悔，不 把所 說的 災禍 降 與他們 了。 | And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not. |
