1 以法蓮 人 聚集，到了 北方，對耶弗他 說：「你去 與亞捫 人 爭戰，為甚麼 沒有 招 我們 同 去呢？我們必用火 燒 你 和你的房屋。」 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
2 耶弗他 對他們 說：「我 和我的民 與亞捫 人 大大 爭戰；我招 你們來，你們竟沒有 來救 我 脫離他們的手。 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
3 我見 你們不 來救我，我就拚 命 前去 攻擊 亞捫 人，耶和華 將他們交 在我手中。你們今 日 為甚麼 上 我這裡 來攻打 我呢？」 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4 於是耶弗他 招聚 基列 人，與 以法蓮人 爭戰。基列 人 擊殺 以法蓮人，是因 他們說：「你們 基列人 在 以法蓮、瑪拿西 中間，不過是以法蓮 逃亡的人。」 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
5 基列人 把守 約旦河 的渡口，不容以法蓮人過去。 以法蓮 逃走的人 若 說：「容我過去。」基列 人 就問他 說：「你是 以法蓮人不是？」他若說：「不是」， And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
6 就對他 說：「 你說『示播列』。」以法蓮人因為咬 不 真 字音，便說「西播列」。基列人就將他 拿住，殺 在 約旦河 的渡口。那 時 以法蓮人 被殺 的有四萬 二 千人。 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7 耶弗他作 以色列 的士師 六 年。基列人 耶弗他 死了，葬 在基列 的一座城裡。 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8 耶弗他以後，有伯利恆人 以比讚作 以色列的 士師。 And after him Ibzan of Beth–lehem judged Israel.
9 他 有 三十 個兒子，三十個 女兒；女兒都嫁 出去了。他給眾子 從 外鄉 娶了 三十個 媳婦。他作 以色列 的士師 七 年。 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 以比讚 死了，葬 在伯利恆。 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Beth–lehem.
11 以比讚之後，有西布倫人 以倫，作 以色列 的士師 十 年。 And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12 西布倫人 以倫 死了，葬 在西布倫 地 的亞雅崙。 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.
13 以倫之後，有比拉頓人 希列 的兒子 押頓作 以色列 的士師。 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14 他 有 四十 個兒子，三十 個孫子，騎 著 七十 匹驢駒。押頓作 以色列 的士師 八 年。 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15 比拉頓人 希列 的兒子 押頓 死了，葬 在以法蓮 地 的比拉頓，在亞瑪力人 的山地。 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
