1 亞希多弗 又對 押沙龍 說：「求 你准我挑選 一萬二 千 人，今夜 我就起身 追 趕 大衛， Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:
2 趁他 疲乏 手 軟，我忽然追 上他，使他 驚惶；跟隨他 的 民 必都 逃跑，我就單 殺 王一人， And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:
3 使眾 民 都歸 順你。你 所 尋找 的人既然死了，眾 民就如已經 歸順你；這樣，也都 平安無事了。」 And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.
4 押沙龍和 以色列 的長老 都 以這話 為美。 And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
5 押沙龍 說：「要 召 亞基人 戶篩來，我們也 要聽 他 怎樣 說。」 Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.
6 戶篩 到了 押沙龍面前，押沙龍 向他 說：「亞希多弗 是如此如此 說的，我們照著 他的話 行可以不可以？若 不可，你 就說吧！」 And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.
7 戶篩 對 押沙龍 說：「亞希多弗 這 次 所 定 的謀 不 善。」 And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.
8 戶篩 又說：「你 知道， 你父親 和 跟隨他的人 都是 勇士，現在他們 心裡 惱怒，如同田野 丟崽子 的母熊一般，而且你父親 是個戰 士，必不 和 民 一同住宿。 For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
9 他 現今 或藏 在 坑 中或 在 別處，若有人 首先 被殺，凡 聽見 的必說：『 跟隨 押沙龍 的民 被殺了。』 Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.
10 雖有人 膽大 如 獅子，他 的心 也 必 消化；因為 以色列人 都 知道 你父親 是英雄，跟隨他 的人 也都是勇 士。 And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.
11 依我之計，不如將以色列 眾人─從但 直到 別是巴，如同 海 邊 的沙 那樣多─聚 集 到你這裡來，你也親自 率領他們出 戰。 Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beer–sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
12 這樣， 我們 在 何處 遇見他，就下到他 那裡，如同 露水 下 在 地上一般，連他 帶 跟隨他 的 人，一個 也 不 留下。 So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.
13 他若 進了 哪一座城，以色列 眾人 必帶 繩子 去，將 那 城 拉 到 河裡，甚至 連 一塊小石頭 都不 剩下。」 Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.
14 押沙龍 和以色列 眾 人 說：「亞基人 戶篩 的計謀 比亞希多弗 的計謀 更好！」這是因耶和華 定意 破壞 亞希多弗 的良 謀， 為要 降 禍 與 押沙龍。 And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the Lord had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom.
15 戶篩 對 祭司 撒督 和 亞比亞他 說：「亞希多弗 為 押沙龍 和 以色列 的長老 所定的計謀 是如此 如此，我 所定的計謀 是如此 如此。 Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.
16 現在 你們要急速 打發人去，告訴大 衛 說：『今夜 不可 住 在曠野 的渡口， 務要 過河，免得 王 和 跟隨他 的 人 都被吞滅。』」 Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.
17 那時，約拿單 和亞希瑪斯在隱‧羅結 那裡等候，不 敢 進 城，恐怕被人看見。有一個使女 出來，將這話告訴 他們，他們 就去 報信 給大衛 王。 Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En–rogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.
18 然而有一個童子 看見 他們，就去告訴 押沙龍。他們 急忙 跑 到 巴戶琳 某人 的家裡；那人 院 中有一口井，他們就下到 井裡。 Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.
19 那家的婦人 用 蓋 蓋 上 井 口，又在上頭 鋪 上碎麥，事 就沒有 洩漏。 And the woman took and spread a covering over the well’s mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.
20 押沙龍 的僕人 來 到 那家，問婦人 說：「亞希瑪斯 和約拿單 在哪裡？」婦人 說：「他們過了 河了。」僕人找他們，找 不著，就回 耶路撒冷去了。 And when Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
21 他們走 後，二人從井 裡上來，去 告訴 大衛 王 說：「 亞希多弗 如此如此 定計 害你，你們務要起來，快快 過 河。」 And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.
22 於是大衛 和跟隨他 的 人 都 起來，過 約旦河。到了 天亮， 無 一人 不 過 約旦河的。 Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
23 亞希多弗 見 不 依從 他的計謀，就備 上 驢，歸 回 本城；到了 家，留下遺言，便吊 死了，葬 在他父親 的墳墓裡。 And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
24 大衛 到了 瑪哈念，押沙龍 和跟隨他 的以色列 人 也都 過了 約旦河。 Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
25 押沙龍 立 亞瑪撒 作 元帥，代替 約押。亞瑪撒是以實瑪利人（又作以色列人） 以特拉 的兒子。以特拉 曾與 拿轄 的女兒 亞比該 親近；這亞比該與約押 的母親 洗魯雅 是姊妹。 And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man’s son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab’s mother.
26 押沙龍 和以色列 人都安營 在基列 地。 So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.
27 大衛 到了 瑪哈念，亞捫族 的拉巴人 拿轄 的兒子 朔比，羅‧底巴人亞‧米利 的兒子 瑪吉，基列 的羅基琳人 巴西萊， And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo–debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
28 帶著 被、褥、盆、碗、瓦 器、小麥、大麥、麥麵、炒穀、豆子、紅豆、炒豆、 Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse,
29 蜂蜜、奶油、綿羊、奶 餅，供給大衛 和跟隨他 的 人 吃； 他們說：「民 在曠野，必飢 渴 困乏了。」 And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
