| 1 | 以色列人 出去 與 非利士人 打仗，安營 在 以便以謝；非利士人 安營 在亞弗。 | And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Eben–ezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek. |
| 2 | 非利士人 向 以色列人 擺陣。兩軍交 戰的時候，以色列人 敗 在非利士人 面前；非利士人在戰場上 殺了 他們的軍兵 約有四 千 人。 | And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men. |

Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies. |
| 4 | 於是百姓 打發人 到示羅，從那裡 將 坐在 二基路伯 上萬軍 之耶和華 的約 櫃 抬來。以利 的兩個 兒子 何弗尼、非尼哈 與 神 的約 櫃 同來。 | So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. |
| 5 | 耶和華 的約 櫃 到了 營中，以色列 眾人 就大 聲 歡呼，地 便震動。 | And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again. |
| 6 | 非利士人 聽見 歡呼 的聲音，就說：「在希伯來人 營裡 大 聲 歡呼，是甚麼 緣故呢？」隨後就知道 耶和華 的約櫃 到了 營中。 | And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the Lord was come into the camp. |
| 7 | 非利士人 就懼怕起來， 說：「有神 到了 他們營中」；又說：「我們 有禍了！ 向來 不 曾有 這樣的事。 | And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore. |
| 8 | 我們 有禍了！誰 能救我們 脫離這些 大能之 神 的手呢？從前在曠野 用各樣 災殃 擊打 埃及人的，就是 這些 神。 | Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness. |
| 9 | 非利士人哪，你們要剛強，要作 大丈夫，免得 作 希伯來人的奴僕，如同 他們作 你們的奴僕一樣。你們要作 大丈夫，與他們爭戰。」 | Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight. |
| 10 | 非利士人 和以色列人打仗，以色列人 敗了，各 向各家 奔逃，被殺的人 甚 多，以色列的 步兵 仆倒了 三萬。 | And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. |

| 13 | 到了的時候， 以利 正在道 旁 坐 在 自己的位上 觀望， 為 神 的約櫃 心裡 擔憂。那人 進 城 報信，合 城 的人就都呼喊起來。 | And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out. |
| 14 | 以利 聽見 呼喊 的聲音 就問說：「這 喧嚷 是甚麼緣故呢？」那人 急忙 來 報信 給以利。 | And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli. |
| 15 | 那時以利 九十 八 歲 了，眼目 發直，不 能 看見。 | Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see. |
| 16 | 那人 對 以利 說：「我是 從 陣上 來的，今日 我 從陣上 逃回。」以利說：「我兒，事情 怎樣？」 | And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son? |
| 17 | 報信的 回答 說：「以色列人 在非利士人 面前 逃跑， 民中 被殺的 甚多！你的兩個 兒子 何弗尼、非尼哈 也 都死了，並且 神 的約櫃 被擄去。」 | And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken. |
| 18 | 他一 提 神 的約櫃，以利就從 他的位 上往後 跌倒，在 門 旁 折斷 頸項 而死；因為 他 年紀老邁，身體沉重。以利作 以色列 的士師 四十 年。 | And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years. |
| 19 | 以利的兒婦、非尼哈 的妻 懷孕 將到產期，她聽見 神 的約櫃 被擄去，公公 和丈夫 都死了，就 猛然 疼痛，曲身 生產； | And his daughter in law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her. |
| 20 | 將要死 的時候，旁邊 站著 的婦人們對她 說：「不要 怕！ 你生了 男孩子了。」她卻不 回答，也不 放 在心上。 | And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it. |
