| 1 | 耶和華 對 撒母耳 說：「我 既厭棄 掃羅 作 以色列 的王，你 為 他悲傷 要到 幾時呢？你將膏油 盛滿了 角，我差遣你 往 伯利恆人 耶西 那裡去；因為 我在他眾子之內，預定 一個作王的。」 | And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth–lehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons. |

| 11 | 撒母耳 對 耶西 說：「你的兒子 都在這裡嗎？」他回答說：「 還有 個小的，現在 放 羊。」撒母耳 對 耶西 說：「你打發 人去叫他來；他若 不 來，我們必不 坐席。」 | And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. |

| 16 | 我們的主 可以 吩咐 面前的 臣僕，找 一個 善於 彈 琴的來，等 神 那裡來的惡 魔 臨 到你身上的時候，使他用手 彈琴，你 就好了。」 | Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. |
| 17 | 掃羅 對 臣僕 說：「你們可以 為我 找 一個 善於 彈琴的，帶 到我這裡來。」 | And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me. |
| 18 | 其中有一個 少年人 說：「 我曾見 伯利恆人 耶西 的一個兒子 善於 彈琴，是大 有勇敢 的戰 士，說話 合宜，容貌俊美，耶和華 也與他同在。」 | Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth–lehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him. |
| 19 | 於是掃羅 差遣 使者 去見 耶西，說：「請你打發 你放羊 的 兒子 大衛 到我這裡來。」 | Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep. |
| 20 | 耶西 就把 幾個餅 和一皮袋 酒，並一隻 山羊 羔，都馱在驢上，交給 他兒子 大衛，送 與 掃羅。 | And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul. |
| 21 | 大衛 到了 掃羅那裡，就侍立 在掃羅面前。掃羅甚 喜愛他，他就作了 掃羅拿 兵器的人。 | And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer. |
| 22 | 掃羅 差遣人 去見 耶西，說：「求 你容大衛 侍立 在我面前，因為 他在我眼前 蒙了 恩。」 | And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight. |
| 23 | 從 神 那裡來的惡魔 臨 到 掃羅身上的時候，大衛 就拿 琴，用手 而彈，掃羅 便舒暢 爽快，惡 魔 離了 他。 | And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. |
