1 伯沙撒 王 為他的一千 大臣 設擺 盛 筵，與這一千 人對面 飲 酒。 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2 伯沙撒 歡 飲之間，吩咐 人將他父（或譯：祖；下同）尼布甲尼撒 從 耶路撒冷 殿 中所 掠 的金 銀 器皿 拿來，王 與大臣、皇后、妃嬪 好用這器皿 飲酒。 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
3 於是 他們把 耶路撒冷 神 殿 庫房 中所 掠 的金 器皿 拿來，王 和大臣、皇后、妃嬪 就用這器皿 飲酒。 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
4 他們飲 酒，讚美 金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石 所造的神。 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
5 當 時，忽有人 的 指頭 顯出，在 王 宮 與燈臺 相對 的 粉 牆 上寫字。王 看見 寫字 的 指頭 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
6 就 變了 臉色，心意 驚惶，腰 骨 好像脫節，雙膝 彼此 相碰， Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
7 大聲 吩咐 將用法術的 和迦勒底人 並觀兆的 領進來， 對巴比倫 的哲士 說， 誰 能讀 這 文字，把講解 告訴我，他必 身穿 紫袍，項 帶 金 鍊，在我國中 位 列第三。 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
8 於是 王 的一切 哲士 都進來，卻不 能 讀 那文字，也不能把講解 告訴 王。 Then came in all the king’s wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
9 伯沙撒 王 就甚 驚惶， 臉色 改變，他的大臣 也都驚奇。 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.
10 太后（或譯：皇后；下同）因 王 和他大臣 所說的話，就進入 宴 宮， 說：「願王 萬 歲！你心意 不要 驚惶，臉面 不要 變色。 Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:
11 在你國中 有 一人， 他裡頭 有聖 神 的靈，你父 在世的日子，這人心中 光明，又有 聰明 智慧，好像神 的智慧。你父 尼布甲尼撒 王，就是王 的父，立 他為術士、用法術的，和迦勒底人，並觀兆的 領袖。 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
12 在他 裡頭 有 美好的 靈性，又有知識 聰明，能圓 夢，釋 謎語，解 疑惑。這人名叫但以理， 尼布甲尼撒王 又稱 他為 伯提沙撒，現在 可以召他來，他必解明 這意思。」 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
13 但以理 就 被領到 王 前。王 問 但以理 說：「你 是 被擄 之 猶大 人 中 的 但以理嗎？就是 我父 王 從 猶大 擄來的嗎？ Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?
14 我聽說 你 裡頭有神 的靈，心中 光明，又有 聰明 和美好的 智慧。 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
15 現在 哲士 和用法術的 都領到 我面前，為 叫他們讀 這 文字，把講解 告訴我，無奈他們都不 能 把 講解 說出來。 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
16 我 聽說 你 善於 講 解，能解 疑惑；現在 你若 能 讀 這文字，把講解 告訴我，就必身穿 紫袍，項 戴 金 鍊，在我國中 位 列第三。」 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
17 但以理 在王 面前 回答 說：「你的贈品 可以歸 你自己，你的賞賜 可以歸 給別人；我卻要 為王 讀 這文字，把講解 告訴王。 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
18 王啊，至高的 神 曾將國位、大權、榮耀、威嚴 賜 與你父 尼布甲尼撒； O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
19 因 神所 賜 他 的大權，各 方、各國、各族 的人都在 他面前 戰兢 恐懼。 他可以 隨意 生 殺， 隨意 升 降。 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
20 但 他心 高氣傲，靈 也剛愎，甚至行事狂傲，就被革去 王 位，奪去 榮耀。 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
21 他被趕出 離開 世人，他的心 變 如 獸心，與 野驢 同居，吃 草 如牛，身 被天 露 滴濕，等 他知道 至高的 神 在人 的國中 掌權，憑自己的意旨 立 人 治國。 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
22 伯沙撒啊，你 是他的兒子（或譯：孫子），你雖 知道 這 一切，你心 仍不 自卑， And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
23 竟向 天上 的主 自高，使人將他殿中 的 器皿 拿到 你面前，你 和大臣、皇后、妃嬪 用這器皿 飲 酒。你又讚美 那不能 看、不能 聽、無 知無識、金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石 所 造的神，卻沒有 將榮耀 歸與 那 手中 有你氣息，管理你一切 行動的 神。 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
24 因此 從 神 那裡顯出 指頭來 寫 這 文字。 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
25 「所 寫的 文字是：『彌尼，彌尼，提客勒，烏法珥新。』 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26 講解 是這樣：彌尼，就是 神 已經數算 你國 的年日到此完畢。 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27 提客勒，就是你被稱 在天平裡，顯出 你的虧欠。 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28 毘勒斯（與烏法珥新同義），就是你的國 分裂，歸與 瑪代人 和波斯人。」 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
29 伯沙撒 下令，人就把紫袍 給但以理 穿上，把金 鍊 給他戴在頸項 上，又傳令 使他 在國中 位 列第三。 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30 當 夜，迦勒底 王 伯沙撒 被殺。 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
31 米底亞人 大利烏 年 六十 二 歲，取了 迦勒底國。 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.
