| 1 | 凡信耶穌爲基督者、由上帝而生也、凡愛生之者、亦愛其所生者也、 | Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. |
| 2 | 我儕若愛上帝而行其誡、則知愛上帝諸子矣、 | By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. |
| 3 | 夫愛上帝也者、守其誡是也、且其誡非難任也、 | For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. |
| 4 | 蓋凡由上帝而生者勝乎世、其所以勝世者、我之信也、 | For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. |
| 5 | 勝世者誰、非信耶穌爲上帝子者乎、 | Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? |
| 6 | 此乃以水以血而來者、卽耶穌基督也、非獨以水、乃以水與血、 | This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. |
| 7 | 證之者聖神也、聖神卽眞理也、 | For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. |
| 8 | 蓋爲證者有三、神也、水也、血也、此三者合於一也、 | And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. |
| 9 | 夫人之證、我若受之、則上帝之證爲尤大、此上帝之證、卽證其子也、 | If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. |
| 10 | 信上帝子者、在己有此證、不信上帝者、則以之爲誑、因不信上帝爲其子之證也、 | He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. |
| 11 | 其證卽上帝以永生賜我儕、而此生在其子也、 | And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. |
| 12 | 有子者則有生、未有上帝子者、未有生也、○ | He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. |
| 13 | 我書此遺爾信上帝子之名者、俾知爾有永生、 | These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. |
| 14 | 我儕若依其旨而求、彼必聽我、此我儕毅然於其前也、 | And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: |
| 15 | 若知有求必聽、卽知所求於彼者則得之、 | And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. |
| 16 | 人見兄弟干罪不至於死、則祈求之、上帝必予之以生、卽予干罪不至於死者、有至於死之罪、我言祈求、非指此也、 | If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. |
| 17 | 凡不義皆罪也、亦有罪不至於死者、○ | All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. |
| 18 | 我知凡由上帝而生者不干罪、生於上帝者則自守、而惡者無從措手也、 | We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. |
| 19 | 且知我儕由於上帝、而舉世附於惡者、 | And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. |
| 20 | 又知上帝子已至、賜我頴悟、使識眞者、我儕在眞者中、卽在其子耶穌基督中也、此乃眞上帝、亦永生也、 | And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. |
| 21 | 小子乎、宜自守、而遠偶像、 | Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. |
