1 以色列王以拉子何細亞三年、猶大王亞哈斯子希西家卽位、 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2 時、年二十有五、在耶路撒冷爲王、歷二十九年、其母名亞比、撒迦利雅女也、 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.
3 希西家行耶和華所悅、悉效其祖大衞所爲、 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did.
4 廢崇邱、毀其柱、斫木偶、昔摩西所作之銅蛇、至今以色列人對之焚香、希西家碎之、稱曰銅塊、 He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.
5 惟倚恃以色列之上帝耶和華、其前後猶大列王中、無如之者、 He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
6 以其依附耶和華、從之弗離、遵守其所諭摩西之誡命、 For he clave to the Lord, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses.
7 耶和華與之偕、凡其所往、無不亨通、背亞述王、不臣服之、 And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
8 擊非利士人、至於迦薩、與其四境、自戍樓以及堅城、○ He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
9 希西家王四年、卽以色列王以拉子何細亞七年、亞述王撒縵以色、上攻撒瑪利亞圍之、 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.
10 越至三年取之、卽希西家六年、以色列王何細亞九年、撒瑪利亞陷、 And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
11 亞述王虜以色列人至亞述、置於哈臘與歌散之哈博河濱、及瑪代諸邑、 And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:
12 因彼不從其上帝耶和華之言、違背其約、凡耶和華僕摩西所命者、不聽不守之、○ Because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.
13 希西家王十四年、亞述王西拿基立、上攻猶大諸堅城取之、 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.
14 猶大王希西家遣使往拉吉、見亞述王曰、我獲罪矣、求爾離我、凡爾加諸我者、我必負之、亞述王遂定猶大王希西家納銀三百他連得、金三十他連得、 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15 希西家以耶和華室與王宮府庫、所有之銀餽之、 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king’s house.
16 當時猶大王希西家、斫耶和華殿門之金、與己所包柱之金、俱餽亞述王、 At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17 亞述王遣他珥探、拉伯撒利、拉伯沙基、統率大軍、自拉吉至耶路撒冷、攻希西家王、旣至耶路撒冷、立於上沼之溝旁、漂工田之大路、 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab–shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
18 呼王、有希勒家子家宰以利亞敬、與繕寫舍伯那、亞薩子史官約亞、俱出見之、 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
19 拉伯沙基謂之曰、其告希西家曰、大王亞述王云、爾所恃者何耶、 And Rab–shakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
20 爾言有謀有勇、足以爲戰、此皆虛語、爾今恃誰而叛我、 Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
21 爾恃埃及、彼乃折葦之杖、人若賴之、必刺其手、凡恃埃及王法老者若是、 Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.
22 如告我曰、我恃我之上帝耶和華、希西家非廢其崇邱與壇、命猶大及耶路撒冷人、惟於耶路撒冷壇前崇拜乎、 But if ye say unto me, We trust in the Lord our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
23 今請以質予我主亞述王、若能備斯騎馬者、我則予爾馬二千、 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
24 不然、曷能禦我主之僕、軍長至微之一、豈恃埃及、得其車騎耶、 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
25 今我上攻此地而滅之、豈無耶和華之旨乎、耶和華乃命我曰、上攻此地而滅之、 Am I now come up without the Lord against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
26 希勒家子以利亞敬、與舍伯那、約亞、謂拉伯沙基曰、請以亞蘭方言語爾僕、我儕識之、勿以猶大方言、使城上之民聞之、 Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rab–shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
27 拉伯沙基曰、我主遣我、豈以此言僅告爾主及爾乎、非亦告坐於城上、將同爾食己矢、飲己溺之人乎、 But Rab–shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
28 拉伯沙基遂立、以猶大方言、大聲呼曰、爾曹宜聽大王亞述王之言、 Then Rab–shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:
29 王云、勿爲希西家所欺、彼不能拯爾脫於我手、 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:
30 勿聽希西家使爾恃耶和華曰、耶和華必拯我、此城必不付於亞述王手、 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
31 勿聽希西家、蓋亞述王云、爾當與我修好、出而降我、則可各食己之葡萄、及無花果、各飲己井之水、 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:
32 迨我來遷爾至一地、如爾故土、有穀、有酒、有食品、及葡萄園、橄欖樹、與蜜、使爾生存、不至死亡、希西家勸爾曰、耶和華必拯我儕、勿聽其言、 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The Lord will deliver us.
33 列國之神、有一曾拯其國、脫於亞述王手乎、 Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
34 哈馬與亞珥拔之神安在、西法瓦音希拿以瓦之神安在、凡此、曾拯撒瑪利亞脫於我手乎、 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?
35 列國之神、誰拯其國脫於我手、耶和華能拯耶路撒冷、脫於我手乎、 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?
36 民默然、不答一詞、蓋王命勿答之、 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
37 希勒家子家宰以利亞敬、與繕寫舍伯那、亞薩子史官約亞、自裂其衣、詣希西家、以拉伯沙基言告之、 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab–shakeh.
