1 此忠誠之事後、亞述王西拿基立侵猶大、圍諸堅城、意欲破之、據爲己有、 After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.
2 希西家見西拿基立至、擬攻耶路撒冷、 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
3 則與牧伯勇士議、塞城外水泉、衆遂助之、 He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.
4 民集甚多、塞諸水泉、及流經斯土之溪、曰、亞述王來、焉得多水、 So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
5 王強厥志、築其頹垣、建樓於上、城外復築城、鞏固大衞城之米羅、多製器械干盾、 Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.
6 立軍長以理民、集之於城門之場、以言慰之曰、 And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,
7 強乃心、壯乃志、勿因亞述王與所率之大軍、畏葸恐惶、蓋偕我者、較偕彼者尤大也、 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
8 偕彼者乃血肉之臂、偕我者乃我上帝耶和華、彼必助我、爲我戰爭、民恃猶大王希西家之言、○ With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9 厥後、亞述王西拿基立、與其全軍攻拉吉、遣其臣僕往耶路撒冷、告猶大王希西家、與在耶路撒冷之猶大人曰、 After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
10 亞述王西拿基立云、爾何所恃、而待受困於耶路撒冷乎、 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?
11 豈非希西家誘爾、致因飢渴而死乎、彼曰、我之上帝耶和華、必拯我於亞述王手、 Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The Lord our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
12 此希西家、非廢上帝之崇邱與壇、命猶大及耶路撒冷人、惟在一壇崇拜、焚香於其上乎、 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
13 我與列祖何以待列邦之民、爾豈不知乎、列邦之神、能救其國脫於我手乎、 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?
14 我列祖所滅諸國、其神誰拯其民脫於我手、爾之上帝、能拯爾脫於我手乎、 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?
15 勿爲希西家所欺、勿爲所誘、勿信其言、蓋無一邦一族之神、能拯其民於我、及我列祖之手、況爾上帝、豈能拯爾脫於我手乎、 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?
16 其臣更有謗上帝耶和華、及其僕希西家之言、 And his servants spake yet more against the Lord God, and against his servant Hezekiah.
17 西拿基立致書毀以色列之上帝耶和華、謗之曰、列邦之神、旣未拯其民於我手、希西家之上帝、亦不得拯其民於我手、 He wrote also letters to rail on the Lord God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
18 其臣以猶大方言、高聲呼耶路撒冷城上之民、欲驚擾之、以取其城、 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.
19 彼論耶路撒冷之上帝、同於人手所造列邦之神、 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.
20 希西家王與亞摩斯子先知以賽亞、因此祈禱、向天呼籲、 And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.
21 耶和華遣使於亞述王營、滅其勇土、軍長將帥、亞述王蒙羞、返其故土、入其神廟、爲其親生之子所弒、 And the Lord sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.
22 如是、耶和華救希西家、及耶路撒冷居民、脫於亞述王西拿基立、及諸敵之手、四周護之、 Thus the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.
23 有多人至耶路撒冷、獻禮物於耶和華、且饋寶物於猶大王希西家、此後、希西家爲諸邦所尊崇、○ And many brought gifts unto the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.
24 時、希西家遘疾瀕死、禱於耶和華、耶和華俞允之、示以異兆、 In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the Lord: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.
25 惟希西家不報所受之恩、中心高傲、以是震怒將及於彼、與猶大曁耶路撒冷、 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
26 然希西家抑其驕心、與耶路撒冷居民自卑、故希西家存日、耶和華之怒未及之、 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
27 希西家富有貨財、大得尊榮、備府庫以存金銀寶石、香品干盾、及諸珍器、 And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
28 備倉廩以積穀、與酒及油、爲牲畜備闌、爲牛羊備牢、 Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.
29 又建城邑、多畜牛羊、蓋上帝賜其貲財豐盛也、 Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.
30 希西家又塞基訓之上源、引水直注大衞城西、凡希西家所行、無不亨通、 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
31 巴比倫牧伯遣使見希西家、詢其境內所見奇事、上帝離希西家、欲試之、以悉其心、 Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
32 希西家其餘事蹟、與其善行、俱載於亞摩斯子先知以賽亞啟示之書、及猶大以色列列王紀、 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
33 希西家與列祖偕眠、葬於大衞裔之陵阪、卒時、猶大衆與耶路撒冷居民、皆尊崇之、子瑪拿西嗣位、 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
