1 羅波安至耶路撒冷、集猶大與便雅憫家、所簡戰士、十有八萬、欲與以色列戰、俾國復歸於己、 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2 耶和華諭上帝僕示瑪雅曰、 But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3 告猶大王、所羅門子羅波安、及猶大便雅憫地之以色列人曰、 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4 耶和華云、勿往與昆弟戰、其各歸家、蓋是事由於我也、衆從耶和華言而歸、不往攻耶羅波安、 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
5 羅波安居耶路撒冷、建邑於猶大、以爲保障、 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
6 卽伯利恆、以坦、提哥亞、 He built even Beth–lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7 伯夙、梭哥、亞杜蘭、 And Beth–zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,
8 迦特、瑪利沙、西弗、 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9 亞多萊音、拉吉、亞細加、 And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10 瑣拉、亞雅倫、希伯崙、皆在猶大便雅憫爲堅城、 And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.
11 羅波安鞏固諸保障、中置軍長、儲備糧食、與油及酒、 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.
12 備干戈於諸邑、使之固甚、猶大便雅憫咸屬之、 And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
13 遍以色列之祭司利未人、自四境來歸之、 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
14 利未人離其鄉里產業、至猶大及耶路撒冷、因耶羅波安與其衆子逐之、不容其供祭司職、奉事耶和華、 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord:
15 耶羅波安爲崇邱、與牡山羊像、及所製之牛犢、設立祭司、 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.
16 以色列各支派中、凡專心尋求以色列之上帝耶和華者、皆隨利未人至耶路撒冷、祭其列祖之上帝耶和華、 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.
17 固猶大國、強所羅門子羅波安之勢、歷至三年、因其三年遵行大衞與所羅門之道也、○ So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
18 羅波安娶大衞子耶利摩女瑪哈拉爲后、又娶耶西子以利押女亞比孩、 And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
19 亞比孩生耶烏施、示瑪利雅、撒罕、 Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.
20 後娶押沙龍女瑪迦、生亞比雅、亞太、細撒、示羅密、 And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21 羅波安娶后妃十八、嬪嬙六十、生子二十八、女六十、惟愛押沙龍女瑪迦、過諸后妃、 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)
22 羅波安立瑪迦子亞比雅爲冢子、冠諸昆弟、蓋欲立之爲王也、 And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.
23 羅波安行事明敏、散置諸子於猶大便雅憫四境之堅城、且厚賜糧食、爲之多覓配偶、 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
