1 撒但起敵以色列人、激大衞核數之、 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.
2 大衞諭約押及民長曰、往核以色列人、自別是巴至但、返而告我、使我知其數、 And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer–sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
3 約押曰、願耶和華增益其民、百倍於今、我主我王歟、斯衆非皆爾僕乎、我主何爲命此、何陷以色列人於罪乎、 And Joab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?
4 然約押爲王命所迫、遂往遍行以色列境、返耶路撒冷、 Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5 以民數進於大衞、以色列人執刃者、百有十萬、猶大人執刃者、四十七萬、 And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.
6 惟利未人與便雅憫人未核、因約押以王命爲可惡也、 But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
7 上帝不悅此事、遂擊以色列人、 And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.
8 大衞禱上帝曰、我行此事、大干罪戾、愚昧之甚、求爾宥僕之過、 And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
9 耶和華諭大衞之先見迦得曰、 And the Lord spake unto Gad, David’s seer, saying,
10 往告大衞曰、耶和華云、我以三者示爾、可擇其一、我行於爾、 Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
11 迦得遂詣大衞曰、耶和華云、爾其擇所欲者、 So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Choose thee
12 或饑饉三年、或爲敵所敗、被敵以刃追襲三月、或耶和華以疫爲刃、遍行斯土、耶和華之使者滅以色列四境三日、爾其思之、俾我覆遣我者、 Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the Lord, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
13 大衞謂迦得曰、我處窘迫之境、耶和華矜恤維大、願陷於其手、勿陷於人手、 And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the Lord; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.
14 於是耶和華降疫癘於以色列、隕者七萬、 So the Lord sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15 上帝遣使往滅耶路撒冷、將滅之時、耶和華見之、悔降斯禍、遂諭施剿之使曰、足矣、可止爾手、其時耶和華之使者、立於耶布斯人阿珥楠之禾場、 And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the Lord beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 大衞舉目、見耶和華使者立於空際、拔刃在手、指耶路撒冷、大衞與諸長老、皆衣麻衣、俯伏於地、 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
17 大衞禱上帝曰、命核民數者非我乎、我犯罪行惡、此羣羊何爲、願我上帝耶和華手攻我、及我父家、勿攻爾民、使遘斯災、 And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O Lord my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
18 耶和華之使者命迦得告大衞、宜上爲耶和華築壇、在耶布斯人阿珥楠之禾場、 Then the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the Lord in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 遂依迦得奉耶和華名、所諭之言而上、 And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the Lord.
20 適阿珥楠打麥、回顧見天使、所偕四子俱避匿、 And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21 大衞至阿珥楠處、阿珥楠見之、乃出禾場、伏地而拜、 And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 大衞謂之曰、以此禾場予我、我爲耶和華築壇其上、俾疫止於民間、必足其價、以場予我、 Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the Lord: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
23 阿珥楠曰、取之可也、願我主我王依所視爲善者而行、牛爲燔祭、打穀之具爲柴、麥爲素祭、我悉予之、 And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.
24 大衞王曰、不然、我必足其價以購之、不取爾物獻於耶和華、不費財之燔祭、我不獻之、 And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
25 於是大衞權黃金六百舍客勒、予阿珥楠、以購其地、 So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
26 大衞爲耶和華築壇於彼、獻燔祭與酬恩祭、籲耶和華、耶和華自天允之、降火於燔祭壇、 And David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the Lord; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
27 耶和華命使者韜刃於鞘、○ And the Lord commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.
28 是時大衞見耶和華於耶布斯人阿珥楠之禾場、允其所祈、則獻祭於彼、 At that time when David saw that the Lord had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29 時、耶和華之幕、與燔祭壇、卽摩西在曠野所造者、皆在基遍崇邱、 For the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon.
30 大衞不敢往彼諮諏上帝、因懼耶和華使者之刃也、 But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
