| 1 | 以色列人緣當滅之物而獲罪、蓋猶大支派、謝拉曾孫、撒底孫、迦米子亞干、取當滅之物、致耶和華怒以色列人、○ | But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel. |
| 2 | 約書亞自耶利哥、遣人往伯特利東近伯亞文之艾、告之曰、往窺其地、遂往窺之、 | And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth–aven, on the east side of Beth–el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai. |
| 3 | 返見約書亞曰、艾人維寡、毋勞民衆皆往、二三千人斯可擊之、 | And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few. |
| 4 | 於是約三千人往彼、爲艾人所敗而遁、 | So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai. |
| 5 | 艾人殺其三十六人、自邑門追之、至示巴琳、擊之於阪、民遂喪膽、荏弱如水、 | And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water. |
| 6 | 約書亞裂衣、與以色列長老蒙塵於首、在耶和華匱前、伏地至暮、 | And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the Lord until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads. |
| 7 | 約書亞曰、噫、主耶和華歟、何爲導斯民過約但、付我於亞摩利人手、以滅我乎、我願仍居約但東爲幸、 | And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan! |
| 8 | 主歟、以色列人背敵而遁、余復何言、 | O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies! |
| 9 | 迦南族與此地居民聞之、必圍困我、滅我名於天下、而爾爲爾大名、將何爲耶、 | For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name? |
| 10 | 耶和華諭約書亞曰、起、何爲伏地若此、 | And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? |
| 11 | 以色列人犯罪、背我所命之約、擅取當滅之物、匿於己器、行竊作僞、 | Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. |
| 12 | 故以色列人見詛、不能禦敵、背敵而遁、若不除當滅之物於爾中、我必不復偕爾、 | Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. |
| 13 | 起、使民自潔、諭之曰、自潔以備明日、蓋以色列之上帝耶和華云、以色列歟、爾中匿有當滅之物、非先除之、不能禦敵、 | Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you. |
| 14 | 詰朝必循支派而至、耶和華所取支派、必循宗族而至、耶和華所取宗族、必循室家而至、耶和華所取室家、必使盡人而至、 | In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the Lord taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the Lord shall take shall come by households; and the household which the Lord shall take shall come man by man. |
| 15 | 被取之人、匿有當滅之物、必燬其人、及凡所有、緣背耶和華之約、妄爲於以色列中也、 | And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel. |
| 16 | 翌日、約書亞夙興、使以色列人循其支派而至、取猶大支派、 | So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken: |
| 17 | 使猶大宗族至、而取謝拉族、使謝拉族至、而取撒底、 | And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken: |
| 18 | 使其室家盡人而至、則取猶大支派、謝拉曾孫、撒底孫、迦米子亞干、 | And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken. |
| 19 | 約書亞謂亞干曰、我子歟、爾當歸榮於以色列之上帝耶和華、向之認罪、以爾所行告我、毋隱、 | And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me. |
| 20 | 亞干對曰、我誠獲罪於以色列之上帝耶和華、所行如是、 | And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done: |
| 21 | 我於所奪之物中、見有示拿之美衣、及銀二百舍客勒、金鋌五十舍客勒、則貪而取之、今在我幕、匿於地中、銀在其下、 | When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it. |
| 22 | 約書亞遣人趨至厥幕、其衣果藏於幕、銀在其下、 | So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it. |
| 23 | 乃自幕中取出、攜至約書亞及以色列衆、置於耶和華前、 | And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the Lord. |
| 24 | 約書亞同以色列衆、取謝拉裔亞干、與銀衣金鋌、曁子女牛羊驢幕、及凡所有、攜至亞割谷、 | And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor. |
| 25 | 約書亞曰、爾何貽禍我儕、今日耶和華必禍爾、於是以色列人以石擊之、以火焚之、及其全家、 | And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the Lord shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones. |
| 26 | 堆石其上、至今猶存、耶和華乃息其烈怒、故其地名曰亞割谷、至於今日、 | And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the Lord turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day. |
