1 以法蓮人集而北往、謂耶弗他曰、爾與亞捫族戰、而不招我偕往、曷故、我必以火燬爾、及爾第宅、 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
2 耶弗他曰、我曁我民、與亞捫族大戰、我曾招爾、爾不救我脫於其手、 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
3 我見爾不我救、遂冒死往攻亞捫族、而耶和華付之於我手、今日爾來攻我、曷故、 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4 耶弗他乃集基列人、與以法蓮人戰、而擊殺之、因以法蓮人曰、爾基列人、在以法蓮瑪拿西間、乃以法蓮之逋逃者也、 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
5 基列人據約但津、以禦以法蓮人、以法蓮人逃遁者、有言請許我濟、基列人則問之曰、爾爲以法蓮人否、如其言否、 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
6 則曰、試言示播列、其人音不相符、而言西播列、則執之、殺於約但津旁、當時以法蓮人隕沒者、四萬二千人、○ Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7 基列人耶弗他、爲以色列士師、凡歷六年、卒而葬於基列之一邑、○ And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8 厥後、伯利恆人以比讚爲以色列士師、 And after him Ibzan of Beth–lehem judged Israel.
9 有子三十、女三十、皆出嫁、爲子娶媳三十、 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 彼爲以色列士師、凡歷七年、卒而葬之於伯利恆、○ Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Beth–lehem.
11 厥後、西布倫人以倫爲以色列士師、凡歷十年、 And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12 卒而葬於西布倫之亞雅倫、○ And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.
13 厥後、比拉頓人希列子押頓爲以色列士師、 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14 有子四十、孫三十、共乘驢駒七十、彼爲以色列士師、凡歷八年、 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15 卒而葬於以法蓮地之境比拉頓、在亞瑪力之山地、 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
