1 流便族、迦得族、牲畜衆多、見雅謝基列二地、堪爲牧畜之所、 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;
2 乃就摩西及祭司以利亞撒、曁諸會長曰、 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,
3 亞大錄、底本、雅謝、寧拉、希實本、以利亞利、示班、尼波、比穩、 Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,
4 卽耶和華於以色列族前、所攻取之地、堪爲牧畜之所、僕有羣畜、 Even the country which the Lord smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:
5 如沾爾恩、請以斯地錫我爲業、毋庸攜我渡約但、 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.
6 摩西曰、汝之昆弟往戰、汝安坐於此乎、 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?
7 奚使以色列族灰心、不濟至耶和華所錫之地、 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them?
8 昔在加低斯巴尼亞、我遣爾祖窺察斯土、彼亦如是而行、 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh–barnea to see the land.
9 旣至以實各谷、而見其地、則使以色列族灰心、不入耶和華所錫之地、 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lord had given them.
10 當日耶和華怒而誓曰、 And the Lord’s anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,
11 出埃及之衆、自二十歲以上者、旣不專從乎我、皆不獲見我所誓於亞伯拉罕以撒雅各之地、 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:
12 惟基尼洗人耶孚尼子迦勒、嫩之子約書亞得見之、以其專從耶和華也、 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the Lord.
13 維時、耶和華怒以色列族、使流離於曠野、歷四十年、迨及斯代之民、違逆耶和華者、盡皆滅沒、 And the Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.
14 今爾繼祖、增益罪人之數、使耶和華怒以色列族愈甚、 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the Lord toward Israel.
15 如爾違逆不從、彼必復遣以色列族於野、是爾滅斯有衆也、 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
16 其人進曰、我必在此、爲羣畜作牢、爲幼稚建邑、 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:
17 我必備執兵械、爲以色列族之先導、攜入其所、惟我幼稚、緣畏斯土之民、必居於堅城、 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 我不旋返、迨以色列族各得其業、 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.
19 我不與彼得業於約但西、因已得之約但東矣、 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.
20 摩西曰、若爾如是而行、執兵爲戰於耶和華前、 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war,
21 所有軍士濟約但河、迨耶和華驅逐諸敵、 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the Lord, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,
22 俾其地服耶和華、然後旋返、則在耶和華及以色列族前無辜、此地歸爾爲業、 And the land be subdued before the Lord: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord.
23 不然、則干犯耶和華、當知罪必及爾、 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.
24 可依所言而行、爲幼稚築邑、爲羣畜作牢、 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.
25 迦得流便二族、對摩西曰、僕循我主之命、 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.
26 妻孥牛羊、留於基列諸邑、 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:
27 僕必濟河、所有執兵之士、爲戰於耶和華前、從我主所言、○ But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord saith.
28 摩西命祭司以利亞撒、嫩之子約書亞、及以色列支派之族長、 So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:
29 曰、如迦得流便二族、凡執兵備戰者、偕爾有衆、於耶和華前、濟約但河、攻取其地、則必以基列地與之爲業、 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the Lord, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:
30 若不執兵偕濟、則必得業於爾中、在迦南地、 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.
31 迦得流便二族對曰、耶和華所命、僕將遵行、 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the Lord hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.
32 我必於耶和華前、執兵濟河、至迦南地、惟我之業、在約但東、 We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours.
33 於是摩西以亞摩利王西宏、巴珊王噩之地、及境內之城邑、四周之鄉里、俱給迦得流便二族、約瑟子瑪拿西支派之半、○ And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.
34 迦得人建築底本、亞他錄、亞羅珥、 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
35 亞他錄朔反、雅謝、約比哈、 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,
36 伯寧拉、伯哈蘭、皆爲堅城、亦作羊牢、 And Beth–nimrah, and Beth–haran, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.
37 流便人建築希實本、以利亞利、基列亭、 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,
38 尼波、巴力免、此二邑易其名、又建築西比瑪、俱以新名稱之、 And Nebo, and Baal–meon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.
39 瑪拿西子瑪吉之裔、往取基列、驅逐亞摩利人、 And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it.
40 摩西卽以其地錫之、遂處其中、 And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.
41 瑪拿西子睚珥、往取其鄉里、稱之爲哈倭特睚珥、 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havoth–jair.
42 挪巴往取基納與其鄉里、以己名稱之爲挪巴、 And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
