1 然則猶太人何所長、割禮何所益乎、 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
2 曰、凡事多益、首則上帝之詔託之、 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
3 設有無信者何如耶、彼之無信、豈廢上帝信乎、 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
4 曰、非也、惟上帝誠、而人皆僞、如經云、俾爾於言見義、於鞫獲勝、 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
5 我且依人之言而言、若我之不義彰上帝義、我將何言、上帝降怒爲不義乎、 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
6 曰、非也、若然、則上帝焉能鞫世耶、 God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
7 若上帝之誠、因我之僞而益致其榮、則我何仍見鞫如罪人乎、 For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
8 且何不爲惡以致善乎、謗我者謂我儕有是言、其人服罪宜也、○ And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
9 然則若何、我儕愈於彼乎、曰、否、不然、我儕曾證猶太人、希利尼人、咸在罪下、 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 如經云、無義人、無其一也、 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 無曉悟者、無尋求上帝者、 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 皆棄正路、同爲無益、無行善者、無其一也、 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 厥喉如未封之墓、舌施詭詐、脣藏蝮毒、 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 口盈咒詛荼苦、 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 其足疾趨以流人血、 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 其途毀滅殘傷、 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 不識平康之路、 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 目無上帝可畏、○ There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 我儕知律所言、乃爲律下者言之、以塞衆口、使舉世服罪於上帝前、 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 蓋於上帝前、無人因行律見義、第由律知罪耳、○ Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 今上帝之義、於律外昭著、乃律與先知所證者、 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 卽上帝之義、因信耶穌基督、及於諸信者、無所區別、 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 蓋衆俱已獲罪、而歉上帝之榮、 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 惟蒙上帝之恩、因基督耶穌之救贖、不勞而見義、 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 上帝立耶穌爲挽回之祭、俾信之者藉其血而獲宥、以彰上帝之義、因其寬容、不究旣往之罪、 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 今彰其義、致己爲義、且義夫信耶穌者、 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 然則所誇安在乎、曰、無之矣、以何律無之、以行之律乎、曰、非也、以信之律耳、 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 故我謂人見義由乎信、非由行律也、 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 夫上帝獨猶太人之上帝乎、非亦異邦人之上帝乎、然也、亦異邦人之上帝也、 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
30 上帝惟一、由信而義受割者、亦由信而義未受割者、 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31 然則我儕以信廢律乎、曰、非也、乃堅律耳、 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
