| 1 | 猶大王約雅敬三年、巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒、至耶路撒冷圍之、 | In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it. |
| 2 | 主以猶大王約雅敬、及上帝室之器一分、付於其手、攜器至示拿地、入於其神之廟、置於其神之庫、 | And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god. |
| 3 | 王諭宦官長亞施毘拿、以以色列宗室、及顯者中數人、攜之而至、 | And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes; |
| 4 | 卽少年無疵、美姿容、嫻智慧、具知識、明格致、可侍於王宮者、教以迦勒底人之學術語言、 | Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. |
| 5 | 王命日以己所用之膳、所飲之酒頒之、養之三年、屆期侍於王前、 | And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king. |
| 6 | 中有猶大人但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亞撒利雅、 | Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: |
| 7 | 宦官長易其名、稱但以理曰伯提沙撒、稱哈拿尼雅曰沙得拉、稱米沙利曰米煞、稱亞撒利雅曰亞伯尼歌、 | Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed–nego. |
| 8 | 惟但以理立志、不以王膳與酒自汚、遂求宦官長免其受汚、 | But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. |
| 9 | 上帝使但以理蒙恩惠憐恤於宦官長、 | Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. |
| 10 | 宦官長謂但以理曰、我畏我主我王、旣定爾之飲食、何可見爾形容憔悴、不及爾同年少者乎、若然、則於王前、使我莫保首領、 | And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king. |
| 11 | 宦官長委保傅、監理但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亞撒利雅、 | Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, |
| 12 | 但以理謂之曰、請試爾僕、飯蔬飲水十日、 | Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. |
| 13 | 後觀我容、及食王膳少者之容、依爾所見而待爾僕、 | Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. |
| 14 | 乃允斯事、試之十日、 | So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. |
| 15 | 越十日、見其容、較食王膳少者、尤美而豐、 | And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. |
| 16 | 保傅乃去所頒之膳與酒、食以菜蔬、 | Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse. |
| 17 | 此四少者、上帝賜以知識聰睿、精於文字學術、但以理洞悉諸啟示及夢兆、 | As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. |
| 18 | 屆王所定少者入覲之期、宦官長引之見尼布甲尼撒、 | Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. |
| 19 | 王與之言、見其中無及但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亞撒利雅者、遂侍於王前、 | And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. |
| 20 | 王於所詢智慧明哲之事、見其愈於舉國之巫人術士十倍、 | And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. |
| 21 | 但以理在彼、至古列王元年、 | And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus. |
