七月旣屆、以色列族居於故邑、衆如一人、集於水門前之場、請文士以斯拉攜摩西律書、耶和華所命於以色列人者、 | And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
七月朔、祭司以斯拉攜律、至會衆男女、凡能聽而明者之前、 | And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.
自朝至於日中、在水門前之場、對諸男女凡能明者誦之、民皆傾耳而聽、 | And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.
文士以斯拉立於特備木臺之上、瑪他提雅、示瑪、亞奈雅、烏利亞、希勒家、瑪西雅、侍於右、毘大雅、米沙利、瑪基雅、哈順、哈拔大拿、撒迦利雅、米書蘭、侍於左、 | And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
以斯拉立於民上、展書、爲衆目擊、民皆起立、 | And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
以斯拉頌讚惟皇上帝耶和華、民咸舉手、應曰、阿們、阿們、遂俯首崇拜耶和華、 | And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
耶書亞、巴尼、示利比、雅憫、亞谷、沙比太、何第雅、瑪西雅、基利他、亞撒利雅、約撒拔、哈難、毘萊雅、與利未人、訓民明律、庶民立於其所、 | Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.
利未人朗誦上帝律書、解釋其義、俾民洞悉所誦者、 | So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
民聞律詞、咸哭、方伯尼希米、文士祭司以斯拉、與訓民之利未人、告之曰、今乃爾上帝耶和華之聖日、毋悲毋哭、 | And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
又曰、往哉、食肥飲甘、無者頒之、此乃我主之聖日、毋憂戚、因耶和華而樂、是爲爾之能力、 | Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
利未人肅衆曰、今乃聖日、當靜默、毋憂戚、 | So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.
民往飲食、亦頒餚饌、懽然喜樂、因明所宣之言也、○ | And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.
翌日、民衆之族長、及祭司利未人、咸集於文士以斯拉所、欲詳聽法律之言、 | And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law.
見律載耶和華命摩西云、於七月節期、以色列人當居於廬、 | And they found written in the law which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:
並在諸邑、及耶路撒冷宣告曰、爾往於山、取橄欖、及野橄欖、崗拈、椶樹、與諸茂樹之枝、遵律所載、以構斯廬、 | And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.
民遂出、取枝構廬、在屋巔院內、上帝室院、及水門場、以法蓮門場、 | So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.
自俘囚而歸之會衆、咸構廬、處其中、喜樂不勝、自嫩之子約書亞時、迄於今日、以色列族未嘗行是、 | And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.
自首日至末日、以斯拉日誦上帝之律書、民衆守節七日、越至八日、循其常例、而集肅會、 | Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.
