1 由上帝旨、爲基督耶穌使徒保羅、及兄弟提摩太、書達哥林多上帝會、與徧亞該亞諸聖徒、 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:
2 願恩惠平康、由我父上帝、與主耶穌基督歸爾、○ Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 祝頌上帝、我主耶穌基督之父、卽憐憫之父、賜諸慰之上帝、 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 彼慰我於諸難中、致我能以其慰我者、慰諸難中之人、 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 蓋如基督之苦、曾溢於我、我之慰亦由基督而溢也、 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
6 我或受難、乃爲爾之慰與救、我或受慰、亦爲爾之慰、致能恆忍爾我同受之苦、 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
7 我所望於爾者堅矣、知爾旣同受苦、亦同受慰、 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
8 兄弟乎、我欲爾知、我在亞西亞遭難、見壓特甚、勢不克勝、至絕生望、 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:
9 自擬必死、致不自恃、惟恃起死者之上帝、 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
10 昔拯我於危亡、今亦拯我、且望其復拯我焉、 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
11 爾曹亦以祈禱助我、致爲我由多人得恩、因而感謝者亦多矣、○ Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
12 夫我儕所以誇者、乃良心爲證、卽以上帝所賦之聖與誠、爲人於世、非恃形軀之智、惟恃上帝之恩、於爾曹爲尤甚、 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
13 我之所書無他、乃爾所讀所識者、冀爾至終識之、 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;
14 如爾中固有識我者、以我爲榮、猶我於我主耶穌臨格之日、以爾爲榮焉、○ As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
15 我旣信此、夙欲就爾、俾復獲益、 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;
16 且由爾適馬其頓、復自馬其頓就爾、得爾送行、往於猶太、 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judea.
17 我有斯意、豈輕躁乎、我之所擬、豈狥情而有是是非非乎、 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?
18 上帝乃誠信、我所語爾者、非或是或非也、 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.
19 我與西拉提摩太、在爾中所宣上帝子耶穌基督、亦非或是或非、在彼惟是而已、 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.
20 蓋上帝所許者、在彼皆是、故亦皆誠、俾上帝由我儕而得榮、 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
21 今堅立爾我於基督中、且以膏膏我者、上帝也、 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
22 又以印印我、賜聖神爲質於我衷、○ Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
23 我籲上帝以我心作證、我不適哥林多者、寬容爾也、 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.
24 此非制爾信、乃助爾樂、蓋爾以信而立矣、 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
