1 我自誇固無益、不得已也、惟言主之顯象啟示耳、 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
2 我識一人宗基督者、十四年前、見攝至三重天、或於身、或不於身、我不知、上帝知之、 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
3 又知若人見攝至樂園、聞莫能言之言、人所不宜道者、或於身、或不於身、我不知、上帝知之、 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
4 又知若人見攝至樂園、聞莫能言之言、人所不宜道者、或於身、或不於身、我不知、上帝知之、 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
5 我爲若人誇、不爲己誇、惟誇我弱、 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.
6 卽誇亦不爲愚、以我所言者眞也、但我自戒、恐人擬我、過其所見所聞於我者、 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me.
7 且以啟示莫大之故、恐我自高過甚、加刺於我身、卽撒但之役擊我、免我自高過甚也、 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8 我爲此求主者三、使之去我、 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9 主曰、吾之恩、於爾足矣、吾之能、於弱者而成全之、故我欣然、寧誇我弱、使基督之能庇我也、 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 我爲基督、以荏弱、凌辱、空乏、窘逐、阨窮爲喜、蓋我弱時則強焉、○ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
11 我爲愚矣、緣爾逼我、蓋我當爲爾所舉、我雖不足數、而不亞於至大使徒、 I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
12 我爲使徒之證、卽以恆忍、行異蹟奇事殊能於爾中、 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
13 爾何事不及他會耶、惟我不累爾而已、此不韙、請恕我、○ For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong.
14 今我欲就爾者三、亦不累爾、以我所求者爾也、非爾所有也、蓋子不必爲親蓄、乃親爲子焉、 Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
15 我爲爾靈、欣然委身盡己矣、我愈愛爾、而愈鮮見愛乎、 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
16 或云我雖不累爾、而以詭計取爾、 But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.
17 夫我遣人就爾、豈因之賺爾乎、 Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you?
18 我勸提多就爾、亦遣一兄弟偕之、提多豈賺爾乎、我儕非同一神、而履一迹乎、○ I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?
19 爾尚意我向爾自訴、然我在基督中上帝前而言也、愛友乎、所言悉以建爾、 Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
20 我恐至時、見爾不副我所望、而爾見我亦不副爾所望、或有爭鬬、媢嫉、忿怒、朋黨、毀謗、隱刺、妄誇、混亂、 For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
21 又恐我再至時、上帝卑我於爾前、我將爲彼干罪諸人、未改悔其汚穢淫亂邪侈之行者而憂也、 And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
