1 兄弟乎、我欲爾知、昔我列祖皆在雲下、徑行海中、 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 皆受洗於雲海、以歸摩西、 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 皆食一靈食、 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 皆飲一靈飲、蓋所飲者、出自相隨之靈磐、夫磐卽基督也、 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5 然其人多爲上帝所不悅、故傾覆於野、 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 此爲我鑑、使勿嗜惡如彼焉、 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 勿拜像、如彼有拜之者、如經云、民坐而飲食、起而嬉戲、 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 勿行淫、如彼有行之者、一日殞二萬三千人、 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 勿試主、如彼有試之者、而亡於蛇、 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 勿怨尤、如彼有怨尤者、而爲滅者所滅、 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 夫彼所遇者、可爲鑑戒、載之於經、以警我儕末世之人、 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 故自以爲立者、愼勿傾也、 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13 爾所遇之試、無非人之可忍者、上帝誠信、不容爾遇試過爾所能、必於其中闢途、使能勝之、○ There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14 我所愛者乎、宜避拜像、 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 我似與達者言、爾當審之、 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
16 我所祝之杯、非與基督之血乎、我所擘之餅、非與基督之身乎、 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
17 蓋我衆乃一餅一體、因皆共此一餅也、 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
18 試觀依形軀之以色列人、食祭物者、非與於祭壇乎、 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
19 然則我何謂耶、言祭像之物爲足稱乎、抑像爲足稱乎、 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
20 乃謂異邦所祭者、祭鬼耳、非祭上帝也、我不欲爾與於鬼也、 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
21 爾不能飲主杯、兼飲鬼杯、不能與主席、兼與鬼席、 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
22 我儕可犯主忌乎、抑力勝於主乎、○ Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
23 物皆相宜、然不盡有益、物皆相宜、然不盡建立、 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
24 勿求益己、惟求益人、 Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.
25 凡售於市者食之、毋爲良心而詢也、 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:
26 蓋地與其所有、無不屬主、 For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.
27 有不信者宴爾、而爾欲往、凡所陳者食之、毋爲良心而詢也、 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
28 設有人語爾曰、此乃祭物、則勿食之、爲語爾者、且爲良心也、 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:
29 所謂良心、非爾心、乃彼心也、蓋我之自由、胡爲被他人之良心擬議乎、 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?
30 若我蒙恩而共食、胡爲因我所感謝者受謗乎、 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
31 如是、爾或食或飲、凡所爲者、皆以榮上帝而爲之、 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
32 勿使人窒礙、或猶太人、或希利尼人、或上帝會、 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
33 如我凡事悅衆、不求益己、乃求益衆、使之得救也、 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
