Solomon's Wise Sayings
Here are some proverbs of Solomon: Children with good sense make their parents happy, but foolish children make them sad.
The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
What you gain by doing evil won't help you at all. Obeying God is the only way to be saved from death. Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
If you obey the Lord, you won't go hungry; if you are wicked, God won't let you have what you want. The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
Laziness leads to poverty; hard work makes you rich. He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
At harvest season it's smart to work hard, but stupid to sleep. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Everyone praises good people, but evil hides behind the words of the wicked. Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
Good people are remembered long after they are gone, but the wicked are soon forgotten. The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
If you have good sense, you will listen and obey; if all you do is talk foolishly, you will destroy yourself. The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
You will be safe, if you always do right, but you will get caught, if you are dishonest. He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
Deceit causes trouble, and foolish talk will bring you to ruin. He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
The words of good people are a source of life, but evil hides behind the words of the wicked. The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
Hatred stirs up trouble; love overlooks the wrongs that others do. Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
If you have good sense, it will show when you speak. But if you are stupid, you will be beaten with a stick. In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
If you have good sense, you will learn all you can, but foolish talk will soon destroy you. Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
Great wealth can be a fortress, but poverty is no protection at all. The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
If you live right, the reward is a good life; if you are evil, all you have is sin. The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
Accept correction, and you will find life; reject correction, and you will miss the road. He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
You can hide your hatred by telling lies, but you are a fool to spread lies. He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
You will say the wrong thing if you talk too much— so be sensible and watch what you say. In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
The words of a good person are like pure silver, but the thoughts of an evil person are almost worthless. The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
Many are helped by useful instruction, but fools are killed by their own stupidity. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
When the Lord blesses you with riches, you have nothing to regret. The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
Fools enjoy doing wrong, but anyone with good sense enjoys acting wisely. It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
What evil people dread most will happen to them, but good people will get what they want most. The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
Those crooks will disappear when a storm strikes, but God will keep safe all who obey him. As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
Having a lazy person on the job is like a mouth full of vinegar or smoke in your eyes. As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
If you respect the Lord, you will live longer; if you keep doing wrong, your life will be cut short. The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
If you obey the Lord, you will be happy, but there is no future for the wicked. The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
The Lord protects everyone who lives right, but he destroys anyone who does wrong. The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
Good people will stand firm, but the wicked will disappear from the land. The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
Honest people speak sensibly, but deceitful liars will be silenced. The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
If you obey the Lord, you will always know the right thing to say. But no one will trust you if you tell lies. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
