The Continues / I Am the All-Powerful I am the Lord All-Powerful,
Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said, |
but you have argued that I am wrong. Now you must answer me. | Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
Job said to the Lord: | Then Job answered the Lord, and said,
Who am I to answer you? | Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
I did speak once or twice, but never again. | Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
Then out of the storm the Lord said to Job: | Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
Face me and answer the questions I ask! | Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
Are you trying to prove that you are innocent by accusing me of injustice? | Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
Do you have a powerful arm and a thundering voice that compare with mine? | Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
If so, then surround yourself with glory and majesty. * | Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
Show your furious anger! Throw down and crush | Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
all who are proud and evil. | Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
Wrap them in grave clothes and bury them together in the dusty soil. | Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
Do this, and I will agree that you have won this argument. | Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
I Created You I created both you and the hippopotamus. It eats only grass like an ox,
Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. |
but look at the mighty muscles in its body | Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
and legs. Its tail is like a cedar tree, and its thighs are thick. | He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
The bones in its legs are like bronze or iron. | His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
I made it more powerful than any other creature, yet I am stronger still. | He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
Undisturbed, it eats grass while the other animals play nearby. * | Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
It rests in the shade of trees along the riverbank | He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
or hides among reeds in the swamp. | The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
It remains calm and unafraid with the Jordan River rushing and splashing in its face. | Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
There is no way to capture a hippopotamus— not even by hooking its nose or blinding its eyes. | He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
