절Contemporary English Version (2006)King James Version
1 but Jesus walked out to the Mount of Olives. Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 Then early the next morning he went to the temple. The people came to him, and he sat down and started teaching them. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 The Pharisees and the teachers of the Law of Moses brought in a woman who had been caught in bed with a man who wasn't her husband. They made her stand in the middle of the crowd. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 Then they said, “Teacher, this woman was caught sleeping with a man who isn't her husband. They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 The Law of Moses teaches that a woman like this should be stoned to death! What do you say?” Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 They asked Jesus this question, because they wanted to test him and bring some charge against him. But Jesus simply bent over and started writing on the ground with his finger. This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 They kept on asking Jesus about the woman. Finally, he stood up and said, “If any of you have never sinned, then go ahead and throw the first stone at her!” So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 Once again he bent over and began writing on the ground. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 The people left one by one, beginning with the oldest. Finally, Jesus and the woman were there alone. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 Jesus stood up and asked her, “Where is everyone? Isn't there anyone left to accuse you?” When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 “No sir,” the woman answered. Then Jesus told her, “I am not going to accuse you either. You may go now, but don't sin anymore.” She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12
Jesus Is the Light for the World
Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This time he said, “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won't be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life.”
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13 The Pharisees objected, “You are the only one speaking for yourself, and what you say isn't true!” The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
14 Jesus replied: Even if I do speak for myself, what I say is true! I know where I came from and where I am going. But you don't know where I am from or where I am going. Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15 You judge in the same way that everyone else does, but I don't judge anyone. Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16 If I did judge, I would judge fairly, because I would not be doing it alone. The Father who sent me is here with me. And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17 Your Law requires two witnesses to prove that something is true. It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18 I am one of my witnesses, and the Father who sent me is the other one. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19 “Where is your Father?” they asked. “You don't know me or my Father!” Jesus answered. “If you knew me, you would know my Father.” Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20 Jesus said this while he was still teaching in the place where the temple treasures were stored. But no one arrested him, because his time had not yet come. These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
21
You Cannot Go Where I Am Going
Jesus also told them, “I am going away, and you will look for me. But you cannot go where I am going, and you will die with your sins unforgiven.”
Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
22 The people asked, “Does he intend to kill himself? Is that what he means by saying we cannot go where he is going?” Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
23 Jesus answered, “You are from below, but I am from above. You belong to this world, but I don't. And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24 This is why I said you will die with your sins unforgiven. If you don't have faith in me for who I am, you will die, and your sins will not be forgiven.” I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
25 “Who are you?” they asked Jesus. Jesus answered, “I am exactly who I told you at the beginning. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
26 There is a lot more I could say to condemn you. But the one who sent me is truthful, and I tell the people of this world only what I have heard from him.” I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27 No one understood that Jesus was talking to them about the Father. They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
28 Jesus went on to say, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, you will know who I am. You will also know that I don't do anything on my own. I say only what my Father taught me. Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29 The one who sent me is with me. I always do what pleases him, and he will never leave me.” And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
30 After Jesus said this, many of the people put their faith in him. As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31
The Truth Will Set You Free
Jesus told the people who had faith in him, “If you keep on obeying what I have said, you truly are my disciples.
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered, “We are Abraham's children! We have never been anyone's slaves. How can you say we will be set free?” They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus replied: I tell you for certain that anyone who sins is a slave of sin! Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 And slaves don't stay in the family forever, though the Son will always remain in the family. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son gives you freedom, you are free! If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 I know that you are from Abraham's family. Yet you want to kill me, because my message isn't really in your hearts. I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 I am telling you what my Father has shown me, just as you are doing what your father has taught you. I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39
Your Father Is the Devil
The people said to Jesus, “Abraham is our father!” Jesus replied, “If you were Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did.
They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 Instead, you want to kill me for telling you the truth that God gave me. Abraham never did anything like that. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 But you are doing exactly what your father does.” “Don't accuse us of having someone else as our father!” they said. “We just have one father, and he is God.” Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Jesus answered: If God were your Father, you would love me, because I came from God and now I am here. He sent me. I did not come on my own. Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why can't you understand what I am talking about? Can't you stand to hear what I am saying? Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Your father is the devil, and you do exactly what he wants. He has always been a murderer and a liar. There is nothing truthful about him. He speaks on his own, and everything he says is a lie. Not only is he a liar himself, but he is also the father of all lies. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 Everything I have told you is true, and you still refuse to have faith in me. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 Can any of you accuse me of sin? If you cannot, why won't you have faith in me? After all, I am telling you the truth. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 Anyone who belongs to God will listen to his message. But you refuse to listen, because you don't belong to God. He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
48
Jesus and Abraham
The people told Jesus, “We were right to say that you are a Samaritan and that you have a demon in you!”
Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49 Jesus answered, “I don't have a demon in me. I honor my Father, and you refuse to honor me. Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
50 I don't want honor for myself. But there is one who wants me to be honored, and he is also the one who judges. And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51 I tell you for certain that if you obey my words, you will never die.” Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
52 Then the people said, “Now we are sure that you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and so are the prophets. How can you say that no one who obeys your words will ever die? Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?” Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54 Jesus replied, “If I honored myself, it would mean nothing. My Father is the one who honors me. You claim that he is your God, Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55 even though you don't really know him. If I said I didn't know him, I would be a liar, just like all of you. But I know him, and I do what he says. Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56 Your father Abraham was really glad to see me.” Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 “You are not even 50 years old!” they said. “How could you have seen Abraham?” Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Jesus answered, “I tell you for certain that even before Abraham was, I was, and I am.” Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 The people picked up stones to kill Jesus, but he hid and left the temple. Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
